Based on how much I have enjoyed teaching beginning photography workshops lately, I've decided to organize one of my own in Cashiers, North Carolina at a private community called Lonesome Valley for the weekend of October 22-24th, 2010. There are only 8 spots available, so please sign up right away if you are interested in joining me. Please pass this along if you know someone who may be interested in this workshop!

Introduction to Digital Photography with Lynne Harty

Join photographer Lynne Harty for the unique experience of learning new photography skills while exploring a private nature preserve in Cashiers, NC.

This pristine setting includes miles of hiking trails, dramatic mountain scenes, and sunsets. Witness the splendor of the fall leaves in full display and the morning mist that often settles in the valley. You will have a real opportunity to explore and photograph a place that is not usually accessible to the public. Lynne will give you lots of tips to take better photographs of people, still lifes, nature and landscapes by learning about composition, lighting, point of view and depth of field.

After dinner on Friday night we will meet to begin talking about photography and assess what the goals are of the group. If the weather cooperates we will start early on Saturday for a sunrise photo shoot on the ridge, followed by breakfast in an immaculate setting in the grassy clearing shown in one of the photos below. There will be some classes with slide shows at the house, live demonstrations and lots of shooting time as we explore the grounds and trails. The weekend will be a one of a kind experience sure to be informative and enjoyable for anyone who loves to take pictures and be in the outdoors. We will end the program on Sunday with a critique.

Check in will be Friday evening from 5-6 and the program will continue until we part ways around noon on Sunday. There will be a maximum of 8 students so that each participant can get personal attention.

Class: October 22nd-24th, 2010

Cost of Class: $395/person which includes a wine reception followed by Asheville's famous 12 Bones BBQ for dinner on Friday, homemade baked goods and fruit for breakfast Saturday and Sunday, and a delicious picnic lunch (including Hannah's homemade cookies) on Saturday. On Saturday night, dinner will be on your own. Payment in full is due upon registration and refunds will not be given due to the small number of students in the class. However, you are welcome to have someone fill your spot.

An SLR camera and a basic working knowledge of it are required for this class. A tripod and laptop computer are highly recommended as are good walking or hiking shoes.

Accommodations: Participants may stay in Lonesome Valley at the Jennings House, the two Lonesome Valley cottages, or local accommodations in Sapphire or Cashiers.

Lynne has taught beginning photography workshops in various places - below are a few testimonials from her students:

"The great thing about Lynne is that not only is she a great communicator about how to take better photographs, but she is a great photographer. We were so impressed with her workshops that we hired her to take portrait photographs of us, and they are the best we have ever seen. She obviously practices what she teaches."

"Lynne Harty speaks from the heart and soul about the creative process, the journey, not just the output. Her medium is the camera and dark room and her work is unique and expressive, but her gift is in inspiring the listener to embrace the visual world and seek beauty as they see it without limitations. I have been to many photography workshops and Lynne has utilized the most holistic approach in energizing her audience with a mix of her own experiences and the work of a diverse set of amateur and professional photographers. She provides the technical support to take the photo, but most importantly the desire to create art."
