WELCOME YAHEL!

We are thrilled to introduce you to Yahel Yankelevich,

our first full-time, full-year shinshinit!

The Shinshinim Program:

A Shinshin is an 18-year-old Israeli emissary who defers their army service for one year to volunteer in Jewish communities abroad with the goal of educating people of all ages about Israel and Israeli culture. They teach about Israel through creative programs and challenging discussions, bringing an authentic Israel experience to the community they serve.

The Shinshinim program is a partnership between the Jewish Agency for Israel, the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles, and of course, Temple Isaiah.

Their work in the Community:

Our Shinshinit, Yahel, will work mainly with our Preschool and K12 students including classroom visits, special programs, Shabbat and holiday celebrations. We are also excited to introduce Yahel to our adult programming, weekend retreats, youth group activities, and more.

One of the main objectives of bringing Yahel to our community is to encourage Israel engagement through educational programming, through formal and informal social interactions, and by building relationships with community members.

All Shinshinim serve as Israeli cultural ambassadors throughout the community, and the program ultimately builds a bridge between Israeli youth and Jewish communities, creating an educational dialogue between the two, in order to strengthen our Jewish family ties and to build the foundation for a secure Jewish future.

What are your hobbies or things you like to do on your free time ?

  1. To cook - Mainly Spaghetti Bolognese
  2. To travel ! Makes me feel free
  3. Theater - To watch and play
  4. To design clothes

Why do you want to do Shlichut? What do you hope to accomplish?

I found it very interesting, important, challenging but satisfying to connect between Israel and the Jewish communities over the world. To give the children in those communities to feel / learn and love Israel. I want the people in my community to know that I am their home in Israel.

Three things you love about Israel and why?

  1. The views (green & yellow, mountains & desert)
  2. The history of the Jewish people and country. I know that a lot of people worked hard, also died in order to build and expand that country. I believe it is honor to keep their way.
  3. The food!!
