Minton Sparks, speaker-songwriter
 Manhattan Theater Source

Greetings!

As those of you in the OC know, in addtion to the very satisfying work I do for The Opportunity Show, from time to time I produce theater work that I passionately believe needs to be seen. Such is the case with the spoken word artist, Minton Sparks.  You probably have'nt heard of Minton if you're not already a fan of spoken word, storytelling, country. In fact, she's hard to categorize.

When I saw Minton at last year's Dodge Poetry festival, I fell in love with her ability to fuse exquisitely honed texts with powerful performances of the characters and stories that shaped her upbringing in rural Tennessee. I knew we had to introduce Minton Sparks to New York in a bigger way.
My Ask is this: Come see her and bring a friend, or 10.
You have 10 great opportunities to see her June 2-5 and 9-12 at the intimate Manhattan Theatre Source. Catch a glimpse in the video below, or visit her website at http://mintonsparks.com for more examples of her work. And do forward this email to anyone you think might be interested.

My Offer is this: I give each of you 2 pairs of tickets to 'gift' to anyone you'd like during the first weekend. Just email their names and email address to ryan@flyingmachineproductions.com and we'll set aside their tickets.

Best,

"They say lightning never strikes twice. At our house, White Lightning struck every night. A painful past will make you a walking target, like a lonely pine in an open field." --Minton Sparks

"I have seen Minton Sparks. And if she's not the ghost child of Flannery O'Connor and Hank Williams, then cotton doesn't grow in a cotton field."

-- Rocker Marshall Chapman

"Plenty of people are straddling the musical and literary worlds these days, but few are as original - or as magnetic - as Minton Sparks."

         -- Nashville Scene February 2011

"Seeing Minton Sparks perform live is like being in a room with a snake. It may or may not be poisonous, but it doesn't matter. You're not taking your eyes off the snake."

-- Garden & Gun, May/June 2008
