Children will learn and develop STEM skills while making friends and having fun as part of a competition team! Fab Lab Competition Teams will meet weekly 21 times throughout the school year and culminate in regional competitions, with the possibility of advancing to state competitions and beyond!


About Registration Fees: We are currently accepting a $35 non-refundable deposit to pre-register for the LEGO and Aerial Drone teams. The Fab Lab has applied for grants that will significantly impact the final pricing. Those who have pre-registered to reserve a spot will be notified in September as to the status of this funding and the final fees due. Please review the full details regarding projected costs using the 'Details' links below for each team.


Grant funding for VEX teams has already been received! Thanks to Foundations Community Partnership for a generous grant to offset the cost of joining this team! Final pricing is set and full team registrations are open!

Every year, FIRST LEGO League releases a new challenge based on a real-world, scientific theme. For the 2024-2025 year, this competition will splash into STEM learning and ocean exploration with ocean-inspired SUBMERGED games for two grade level groups.

  • Explore (grades 2-5) will have 4 teams of 6 students each
  • Challenge (grades 6-8) will have 2 teams of 5 students each
Explore LEGO Competition Team

FIRST LEGO League - Explore Teams

Mondays, 9/30/24 through 3/31/25

5:00-7:00pm

Students will understand the basics of STEM and apply their skills in an exciting competition while building habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way. In Explore, teams of students ages 6-10 (grades 2-5) focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO Education SPIKE Essential.

Challenge LEGO Competition Team

FIRST LEGO League - Challenge Teams

Mondays, 9/30/24 through 3/31/25

5:00-7:00pm

Students will understand the basics of STEM and apply their skills in an exciting competition while building habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way. Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students in grades 6-8 engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. VEX Robotics

All students are natural scientists and engineers - they love to question, tinker, experiment and play. VEX competitions foster these skills and capitalize on the motivational effects of competitions and robotics to help all students create an identity as a STEM learner.   • VEX IQ (grades 3-6) will have 8 teams of 5 students each
  • VEX V5 (grades 6-9) will have 2 teams of 5 students each

Wednesdays, 10/2/24 through 4/2/25

5:00-7:00pm

This year’s game - RAPID RELAY - is a fast-paced, cooperative challenge that will have competitors and viewers on the edge of their seat. Teams of students in grades 3-6 will work towards the goal of attending and competing in regional competition, with the opportunity to reach state and even national championship levels!

VEX V5 Competition Team

VEX V5 Robotics Teams

Wednesdays, 10/2/24 through 4/2/25

5:00-7:00pm

This year's game - HIGH STAKES - is an exciting challenge where robots stack, climb and score while defending against the opposing teams. VEX V5 offers students in grades 6-9 with the chance to build, code and control advanced robotics and compete against teams. Over 11,000 teams from 40 countries will work through local, state and national tournaments on their path to be World Champs!

Aerial Drone Competition Team

Aerial Drone Teams

Thursdays, 10/3/24 through 4/3/25

5:00-7:00pm

Teams of 4 students, up to 12 total teams, from grades 6-12.

Teams will learn about drones, flight principles, programming, documentation, and communication skills while expanding their understanding and building interest for a drone-related workforce and future career opportunities. The competition has 4 focuses: Teamwork, Autonomous Flight Skills Challenge, Piloting Skills Challenge, and Competition Logbooks.
