Introducing Dr. Josh Gezahegn

as President of the Volunteer Center

We are thrilled to share the news of an important appointment within our organization. With great pleasure, we announce the selection of Dr. Josh Gezahegn as the new President of the Volunteer Center. Josh will assume his responsibilities starting on July 10, 2023.


Josh brings to the table an impressive wealth of experience in multi-sector leadership, spanning

over 15 years. His expertise lies in change management, business development, and complex

program operations. Previously, Josh served at Chrysalis, a highly respected social enterprise and workforce development agency dedicated to empowering low-income and unhoused individuals to overcome employment barriers. He successfully directed programs and site operations during his tenure, leading a team of 27 professionals serving over 3,900 job-seeking clients per year on their path toward self-sufficiency. 


Josh's career has encompassed diverse roles and volunteerism within the nonprofit and corporate sectors. Throughout his career, Josh has been recognized for leading with high emotional intelligence, creative problem-solving, and relationship-building. Josh holds a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership from Regent University, and he recently obtained his Doctorate in Education Leadership from USC. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Josh used his dissertation research to streamline workforce enrollment processes for vulnerable populations and acquired significant grants and funding to provide rental support and food resources. Josh has called California home for almost 30 years and has a huge passion to expand education equity and economic opportunity in underserved communities.

I will have a lot to absorb stepping into this role, but I can’t wait to get started and meet all of you in the weeks ahead. I am confident we will continue to expand our empathy footprint and innovate our programs and education initiatives to meet the evolving needs in our community.
