She's designed and developed her own line of unique quilting rulers and ruler feet, and uses these during her presentations. This will be her second US Quilting Rulers Tour. What to Quilt in a Quilt
(Lecture/Demo)
Tuesday - October 17
(1 - 4 pm)
Enrollment fee: $20
- Students are encouraged to bring quilts or photos of their quilts to get ideas or design solutions.
- Types of quilting techniques
- What people see when they look at your quilt
- Custom quilt, divide and conquer
- Correct quilting density. How to choose the right color thread without using mono filament or invisible threads
- Background fillers and how to deal with embroidery or applique in a block
- Breaking negative spaces with rulers.
- How to be a pro in a month (no magic solutions)
- Optimize your machine and get the best tools for enhancing your quilting skills
- Start from scratch drawing on paper to gain confidence and the go on to a sample
- The progression of quilting, from basic designs to beautiful and complex designs, adding ruler work as registration lines (even feathers)
- Using rulers to achieve structure in your quilt and decorative quilting for symmetrical patterns
- How to do ruler work on a domestic sewing machine and solving common problems
Wednesday - October 18
(10 am - 4:30 pm)
Enrollment fee: $60 includes lunch; use of ruler set for class (with option to purchase ruler set)
- Learn how to create professional looking free motion quilting designs and background fill designs.
- Give formal structure and shape to the quilt.
- How to quilt different quilting styles using rulers.
- How to practice what is needed to get the best result.
- How to setup the machine for free motion and ruler work.
Sewing machine and ruler work foot are required. Fabric kit is required and is an extra cost. A set of 6 rulers will loaned to you for use during class and is an optional purchase. A complete supply list will be furnished upon registration.
