From Baltimore to Ashkelon

As part of the Baltimore-Ashkelon Partnership, and with a delegation from Pearlstone Center, Joan was delighted to spend two weeks in Israel in December 2017. She learned and shared with environmental and sustainability professionals, experienced Israeli culture, and took in many ancient and modern sites. Below are a few of the pictures taken during this amazing journey and exploration. Drop Joan a line if you would like to hear more about it.

Greenest Building in Israel: Tel Aviv Univ's Porter School for Environmental Studies

Israel's first LEED Platinum building creates its own electricity using solar energy and uses the same system for shading and screening out noise.

A constructed wetland system greets visitors in front of the building and is used to purify greywater for reuse in landscape irrigation.

The capsule is an extraordinary architectural element: an elliptic, three-dimensional structure, suspended over the glass walled atrium.

Students and professors are conducting research on algae; which is visible from the naturally lit atrium of the Porter building.
