Life's adventure continues

at White Horse Village

Ursula Siebeneich has always been ready to learn new things, and that adventure has continued after her move to White Horse Village.

She was 5 years old when her family moved from Germany to a new home and culture in Wisconsin, and she’s made good use of that ability to adapt in the years since.

In her career, Ursula worked in IT when computers were mostly large mainframes, but as personal computers and laptops arrived on the scene, her curiosity kept her exploring the new technology.

Now, Ursula uses her knowledge on the resident technology committee at White Horse Village, helping other residents with tech issues they may experience.

Ursula first heard about White Horse Village from friends.

When the woman who would one day become her wife moved to this community, Ursula decided to follow.

In that move, she switched from a large townhome to an apartment here. She was prepared for the change and says it’s worked out well in the decade since.

A past and future of concern for the environment

A senior living community can have a similar impact on the environment as a small town, which means we need to be thoughtful about caring for the world around us.

Throughout our history, sustainability has been part of White Horse Village’s design, and a Sustainability committee made up of residents and management has made this a special focus.

Visit our new sustainability web page to learn more about the innovative ways this community prioritizes environmental responsibility through recycling, sustainable landscaping and cleaning practices, and more.

Team member spotlight: Ayisha Brown

Incoming residents will often have the chance to interact with Ayisha Brown, who is looking forward to her new role as the move-in coordinator, starting May 1st. She joined the team six years ago in Housekeeping and last year was promoted to project cleaning coordinator.

Ayisha will work with incoming residents to help them choose a home, select new finishes and customize spaces using a virtual design model, which offers a visual preview of design selections.

“I’m up for the challenge, something different,” Ayisha says. “White Horse Village is a place of opportunity.”

“Ayisha knows our community and really cares about our residents. She is passionate about our mission and providing an exceptional customer experience,” says Susan Abtouche, director of Mission Enhancement.

You can contact Ayisha at aybrown@whitehorsevillage.org.

Meet our new leadership in Dining

John Johnston, director

John has worked in the hospitality industry for 35 years, and we’re excited to welcome him to a new role as Dining Services director here. John has been with us since 2021 as the assistant director of dining, so he’s very familiar with our residents and dining expectations.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Widener University in hotel and restaurant management, and has experience in settings from hotels to country clubs and retirement communities. He’s also a member of the Club Managers Association of America.

He takes satisfaction from building positive relationships with residents and learning their needs so he can serve them better.

Jaimie Cherok, assistant director

Jaimie started working in the food industry at age 16. Over the years, she’s worked in universities and continuing care retirement communities. She served as catering director at the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, then as dining services director at a CCRC in Pittsburgh.

Jaimie shifted to real estate for a time, pursuing a longtime aspiration. She liked it, she says, but missed the connection with residents. She also wanted to move to be closer to her family in the area, so the timing was right for a move to White Horse Village.

“The community is gorgeous and very peaceful,” she says, and residents are friendly and come up to introduce themselves. “It’s definitely been a good experience.”

What are 'levels of care'?

Here are the basics

Like many other continuing care retirement communities, White Horse Village is set up around four basic levels of care to ensure it can meet the needs of all residents.

What are the levels of care, exactly, and how do they differ from each other? Here’s an overview from Patty St. Clair, manager of admissions and social services in Healthcare.

It was great to have so many people come out to our Senior Living Showcase in April! They were able to get important information from a wide range of industry experts, from real estate professionals to specialist attorneys and more.

Diane McNitt is a style enthusiast who has researched widely, and she brought a fascinating discussion on the history and evolution of fashion in March. Attendees were guaranteed to learn something new, whether it was why women’s buttons are on a different side than men’s, how clothing changed as women entered the workplace, or how much it can cost to dress as a First Lady. (One of Nancy Reagan’s dresses cost $22,000, or more than $60,000 in today’s money, for a single event!)
