Academics
Semester One Closes Tomorrow, January 20
As we near the close of a term, we traditionally see an uptick in workloads and stress, so we want to remind students to make good use of their advisors, teachers, peer tutors, and prefects, as well as the many other support resources available to them here on campus. Now is a great time for students to do a final check with teachers to ensure that they are up-to-date with any missing work.
Grades for Window Two and Semester One, January 31
Grades and effort grades for Window Two and Semester One will be posted on January 31; please look for a follow-up message from the Academics Office confirming that grades are posted. Advisors will be in touch with advisee families to schedule 20-minute virtual/remote conferences beginning February 1 to review progress and feedback from the first semester.
Professional Development Day / No Classes, February 15
Classes will not meet on Wednesday, February 15, to allow faculty to engage in professional development and curriculum work. Games and other required activities will still take place in the afternoon. Boarding students should plan to be on campus as usual for any required obligations, including being in houses on Tuesday evening, February 14.

Admission and Dean's Office Announce Process for DAY Students Who Want to Be Considered for BOARDING Next Year
Our offices are in the process of making projections for the 2023—2024 school year. For all parents of DAY students currently in the III, IV, or V Form: please let us know if you would like your student to be considered for a BOARDING spot next year. (A few of you have already reached out.) There are a limited number of openings for those who may want to switch from day to boarding. We will gather all requests and review them on both a case-by-case and first-come basis.
To be considered for one of these spots, please have your family send an email or letter to Anne Behnke, Maggie Caron, and David Vachris. Written requests are due by Friday, February 17. Shortly thereafter, we will follow up with your family about your request. Please be aware that if your family decides to have a child switch to boarding, they must remain boarding throughout the tenure of their time at St. Mark's. Thank you.
To all non-graduating families: please stay tuned to next month's Inside the Pride for important information about the annual re-enrollment process. This process will take place in the second half of March during Spring Break. More details to come!

Community and Equity
A Message to Our Community on Martin Luther King Jr. Day
On Monday, January 16, the St. Mark's C&E Office shared this message:
St. Markers,
As we embark on our day of rest, let us not forget to honor the life and work of Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. We recognize that Dr. King’s legacy is one of devotion, compassion, and resilience, as he and the many who shared in his vision, extended nonviolent means of which to engage in a most precious quest for equality and justice.
As representatives of the Office of Community & Equity, we would like to invoke two very important messages shared by Dr. King. The first should sound very familiar as it echoes the sentiments of our school motto, Age Quod Agis: Do and Be your Best.
“Whatever your life's work is, do it well. A man/woman should do his/her job so well that the living, the dead, and the unborn could do it no better.”
May we endeavor to be so inspired to do our work well, with purpose, and centered in grace, honesty, and humility.
The second is as profound and also represents what is additionally asked of you as members of the St. Mark’s Community, that you pursue lives of consequence.
"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?”
May we also take heed of the precious and ambitious actions we can and should for others, especially those who find themselves in need of support, guidance, and conviction.
Lastly, do your best to not let this day expire without taking a moment to reflect on the ways in which you affect those around you. It is how we conduct ourselves and enact our commitments that we build our own legacies at St. Mark’s and beyond.
