ORGANICS COLLECTION TIP OF THE WEEK
As the weather gets cold, the organics in your tote can freeze making it difficult to service. Here are some tips to make sure your bin gets emptied.

  • Keep the bin in your garage, shed, or another slightly warmer area overnight to prevent freezing.
  • Line your tote with cardboard or newspaper before putting organics in it.
  • Unstick the lid of the tote when you set it out – it might be frozen.
  • Keep liquids out of your organics tote.

COMMUNITY NOTICES AND EVENTS
Oceanfront Construction Update - Winter 2022

Foreshore work is set to begin at the Carbon Engineering Innovation Centre (CEIC), on the Cattermole Slough in December. The CEIC is the first building at Oceanfront Squamish and is located on the west side in The Works Neighbourhood of the property.

The foreshore construction will provide erosion protection, habitat enhancement and native marsh planting species and public trail access. The foreshore and site design consider future coastal flood scenarios related to sea-level rise. This will be the first section of the oceanfront perimeter trail and will connect to the existing DOS trail network. The design has been approved by the District of Squamish and has all the necessary provincial and federal permits in place.

Heavy machinery will be working in this area and construction is anticipated to take us through the new year and into the spring. Public safety is a priority, and we ask everyone to respect the trail closure along the Cattermole Slough through this time.
Notice of elector Alternative Approval Process (AAP)

Council is considering Loan Authorization Bylaws in order to borrow funds for six upcoming projects that were approved in the 2021-2025 Financial Plan.

Loan Authorization Bylaws give the District approval to now finance the projects through borrowing.

If you are in favour of these bylaws, you do not need to submit any forms. If you object to one or more of these bylaws, please complete and submit an Elector Response Form for each bylaw you are not in favour of. Council will consider each bylaw separately.

LATEST NEWS FROM THE BUILDERS’ CORNER
The new low-carbon incentive program will be coming into effect for building permit applications submitted after December 31.

This program aims to establish a low-carbon incentive for residential construction which would see a reduction in the allowable floor area in zones RS-1, RS-1A, RS-2, RS-3, RM-1, RM-2, RM-3, RMH-2, C-1 and C-4 unless a low-energy source is chosen.

The library building will be closed for in-person visits from December 12, 2021, until early January 2022 due to renovations. Even though library take-out service will be available, it is recommended to stock up on library items before the renovation closure. Loan periods have been extended into the new year. For Library hours and services visit squamishlibrary.ca.
