Hundreds of operators admitted to 5280 Safe Driving Club

When RTD’s bus operators arrived at work last week and approached the window at East Metro, Boulder and Platte, many received more than that day’s assignment. Two-thirds were also handed an orange bag signifying membership in the 5280 Safe Driving Club, meaning the recipient had driven for at least one year without a preventable accident.

In Memoriam: Honoring the life of RTD police K-9 Max

Max, RTD Transit Police Department (RTD-PD)’s K-9, died May 7 due to an unexpected illness. He served RTD-PD for five years with his former K-9 officer and permanent caretaker, RTD-PD officer Corey Averill. Max achieved national recognition for his contributions.

An inside look at how the TIC manages peak periods, disruptions and events

At 6 a.m., many Denverites are just starting their day, whether it be with an early morning workout, cracking eggs and sizzling bacon over the griddle, or simply smashing the snooze button on their alarm clocks to squeeze in another five minutes of sleep before having to get out of bed. At that hour at RTD’s Telephone Information Center (TIC), agents have turned on the phones and are prepared to tackle any challenge the agency’s customers have.

GM/CEO gives Board, media a look at Downtown Rail Reconstruction Project

In two events Monday, RTD General Manager and CEO Debra A. Johnson invited the Board of Directors and local media outlets to join her at the corner of 15th and California streets in Denver for a primer about the Downtown Rail Reconstruction Project, which begins Sunday. Johnson explained why this critical infrastructure project is necessary and spoke to how it will ensure the safety of RTD’s customers and employees for decades to come.

It was a great day to run the 2024 Colfax Marathon relay!

On Sunday, RTD fielded two teams of employees to compete in the Colfax Marathon relay. Of 254 teams in the Government Relay category, RTD’s Agony of De Feet, consisting of captain Brett Ryals, Jesus Encinas, Victor Cruz, Taylor Martinez and Sangman Yoon, finished in 67th place, with a combined time of four hours, two minutes and 54 seconds. RTD’s Free Wheelers, consisting of captain Jamie Green, Brian Thye, Ketema Ketema, Gary Keppy and Jonathan Mills, came in 28th place, with a combined time of three hours, 41 minutes and seven seconds! To each of RTD's athletes: Well done!

N Line conductor visits with Northglenn high school students

Walter Palmgren, center, a conductor and instructor for N Line Commuter Rail Transportation, visited students at Vantage Point High School in Northglenn earlier this month. Palmgren presented a gift to teacher Sondra Weber in observance of Teacher Appreciation Week and shared his experience with students.

IT developer saves the day during major Next Ride outage

I’d like to give a shout-out to Joe Benbella, Full Stack Developer, Information Technology. On Tuesday, May 14, in the midst of a major wire replacement project impacting the E and H lines, we had been dealing with an issue in Next Ride with incomplete schedules displaying for E and H all day.

N Line conductor’s attentive eye saves person’s life

On May 10 at Thornton Crossroads·104th Avenue Station, conductor Mike Dawson noticed an individual sitting on a bench at the station platform who was hunched over and unresponsive. Conductor Dawson reported this person out of concern for their well-being to our Operations Control Center, who then reported it to RTD Transit Police.

Join engineer Caitlin Arnold and construction manager Kim Neyrinck at 11:30 a.m. May 30 on Microsoft Teams as they provide a refresher on the Downtown Rail Reconstruction Project before the project kicks off next week. Civil Rights to host open houses this spring and summer

The Civil Rights Division’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) office will host open house events beginning next Tuesday with Bus Operations, N Line Commuter Rail Operations, Light Rail Operations, Customer Care and Contracted Services to answer operators’ questions, address their concerns and identify ADA-related issues that operators are experiencing. RTD will temporarily relocate some bus stops in Longmont

Starting Sunday, RTD will move all bus stops currently on 8th Avenue and Coffman Street to a temporary location directly across Roosevelt Park on 8th Avenue and Bross Street. The relocation of stops is part of the City of Longmont’s Coffman Street Mobility Improvements Project.

RTD headquarters access affected by construction

Crews will soon begin utility work between Wazee and Blake streets and in the intersection of Blake Street and the 16th Street Mall. This work is expected to last 10 to 12 weeks.
