October 2018 | Volume 2
Innovation @ Georgia Tech
Students at Georgia Tech are known for being able to creatively think outside the box in order to design solutions to far-ranging issues. Two things to keep in mind as you move towards a possible solution are (1) be clear on the problem you are solving and (2) know your customer(s) by speaking to them about their issue. We have created a roadmap that can help with moving from an idea to a startup. Stop by CULC 205 to pick one up.
InVenture Prize Registration begins
Student innovators across Georgia Tech can now register to be a part of the 2019 InVenture Prize. During the registration process the team lead is expected to describe the idea and provide key background information on the problem they are trying to solve.

Innovating for Social Impact Program
This is an experiential program, offered in partnership with The Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship (ILE) in the  Scheller  College of Business, and introduces students to social innovation as a tool for social impact, with an emphasis on social entrepreneurship, grassroots innovation, and systems change. It is unique at Georgia Tech in its flexibility: it is open to undergraduate and graduate students in any major, has no prerequisites, and allows students to combine courses and co-curricular experiences - and can even be completed through co-curricular experiences alone, for students who have no extra room in their course schedules.

Explore Tech's Innovation Ecosystem
The Van Leer Interdisciplinary Design Commons is now open. This newly redesigned building, funded by in part by Texas Instruments, will provide opportunities for collaboration, research and makerspaces aimed at increasing student creativity and innovation.

As the largest electronics-oriented makerspace in the United States, Van Leer holds a number of instruments including a woodshed, 3D printers, laser cutters, function generators, soldering irons, and a plasma cutter.
This organization runs one of the nations largest hackathon. In the next few weeks students across GT will participate in the 5th annual 36-hour hackathon. Students can participate in four education paths. The four paths are Artificial Intelligence, Mobile Development, Security, and Web Development.

The event is free to student participants as all costs are covered by event sponsors. This event will run from October 19th - 21st. Students must sign up to participate.
Past Events and Activities
We had a great conversation on the strategies used by scientists and engineers to design practical and creative solutions to issues.

Dr. Wayne Li discussed the concept that design behavior bridges the language and ideological gap between engineering and design. Explore the Design Collab here.
A number of students have signed up to get more information about the largest student invention competition in the United States, the Georgia Tech InVenture Prize.
