In January 2023, the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) directed the Department of Public Works, Water & Sewerage Division (WSD), to enhance billing for customers and transition to a tiered billing system. Under tiered billing, the customer cost per unit of water will be based on the amount used within each tier. Following the directive, WSD conducted a Tiered Billing Input Survey for residents, which resulted in the majority of customers opting for a tiered system.
This Tuesday, May 7, WSD will hold a work session with the BOCC to discuss their recommendations following a comprehensive analysis conducted in partnership with their consultant, NewGen Strategies & Solutions. A copy of the work session can be found on the May 7 BOCC Meeting Agenda.
Please note that BOCC work sessions are purely informational; no voting takes place and there is no time allotted for public comment. However, our community's input is highly valued. Please submit any questions or comments in advance of the meeting to wsbilling@calvertcountymd.gov.
In addition, the public is encouraged to attend the fiscal year 2025 commissioners’ recommended operating and capital improvement budget public hearing on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 7 p.m. to provide input on WSD's proposed tiered billing system.
The public hearing will be held in the Commissioners Hearing Room, located in the Calvert County Circuit Courthouse, Second Floor, at 175 Main St. in Prince Frederick. The public may dial in by phone (audio only) to participate remotely:
• Toll-free: 301-715-8592
• Meeting ID: 899 4188 8251
• Passcode (if asked): #
• To provide public comment: *9
Please take the opportunity to participate in shaping the future of our water billing system by submitting your questions and comments in advance of the May 7th work session, and by attending the public hearing on May 16th. Your engagement is crucial as we move forward with these important decisions.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in the governance of Calvert County.
