Check out the rapid transit demonstration bus this week!
|
IndyGo welcomes the public to learn about and ride a demonstration bus similar to those that will run along the Purple, Blue, and Red rapid transit lines. The 60 foot, battery-powered bus, manufactured by BYD, will be displayed at upcoming events and run on limited routes; giving the public the opportunity to learn more about what rapid transit would mean for Indianapolis.

While on display and in service, IndyGo staff will accompany the BYD bus to answer questions and provide information about the vehicle. There is no cost to ride the demonstration bus.
These new vehicles will be battery-electric, meaning they don't use any combustible fuel at all! They will be roomy, have options to roll your bike and wheelchair right on, and offer wifi for riders. They will have LED signs inside indicating the next station stop, and what time the vehicle will arrive there. These vehicles will also feature unique branding to identify them as a rapid, fast, and reliable service.

Take Part in Car Free Day - September 22
|
There's still plenty of time to take the online pledge
to go car free or car-lite on September 22 for Car Free Day! Everyone who pledges before Sept. 22 will be registered to win some cool prizes, including tickets to the inaugural Red Bull Air Show at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Pacers Bikeshare memberships.
A few events will take place in the region that morning, mid-day, and afternoon. Visit the Where & When page for more details. Each event will feature free entertainment and refreshments (while supplies last), and everyone who pledges and comes to an event can get a pass for a free cab ride home in case of emergency.
See event details here.
The benefits of being Car Free/Car-Lite include:
- Be more productive! When you're participating in a carpool, vanpool, or riding transit, you can work, read, or text - things you can't do when you're driving.
- Save money! Carpool, take transit, walk, or bike and pay less for gas, parking, and wear and tear on your vehicle.
- Stay social! Carpooling and vanpooling will give you more time to spend with coworkers and friends instead of sitting in traffic alone.
- Improve the environment! Carpooling, vanpooling, bicycling, walking, and taking transit reduces your carbon footprint when compared to driving alone, and helps to improve the air quality in Indianapolis.
