ABLE BC | Update on Alcohol Distribution and Quantity Limits
Following the BCGEU's decision to stand down on strike action during negotiations, the LDB has begun its restart plan and, as of August 31, is shipping outstanding orders placed prior to job action. This includes:
  • Orders received by email and phone before 3:30 pm on August 15
  • Orders placed on Web Store before 3:00 pm on August 17

Once these orders are shipped distribution will shift to new orders. Due to high order volumes, delivery of new orders is expected to be delayed. ABLE BC has outlined further details on the restart plan along with remaining quantity limits - see more below.

Survey | Evaluation of Economic Grant Programs
The province is seeking participation in a survey to understand experiences with these economic grant programs:

Please note, responses will be reported in aggregate format only without identifying information of individual respondents. The survey will be open until September 18, 2022.
If you have questions about the survey, please contact Ministry of Jobs Economic Recovery and Innovation staff at businessrecoverygrantprogram@gov.bc.ca.
WorkSafe BC Amends Rules on the Refusal of Unsafe Work
As of August 22, 2022, the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (OHSR) has been amended to strengthen worker protections on the right to refuse unsafe work. Prior to the amendment, the regulation did not explicitly prohibit the reassignment of refused work, or require the disclosure that another worker had refused the task due to health or safety concerns. WorkSafeBC has addressed this issue through the amendment to the OHSR.

Under the new rules, employers are required to notify workers in writing of any unresolved work refusal due to safety concerns. It also requires employers to tell the subsequent worker the specific reasons the first worker felt the task was unsafe. The employer must also explain why the task would not create an undue hazard to their health and safety.
Seeking Donations | BC Hospitality Foundation "Hotels to Help" Online Lottery
The BC Hospitality Foundation delivers necessary financial aid for individuals in the hospitality sector currently experiencing financial crisis; and after a couple of years "on pause", the Hotels to Help online lottery will be back in October! Tipping Our Hat to Industry
Remembering Industry Pioneer, John Williams

With great sadness, we reflect on the memory of John Williams -- a fearless leader and compassionate mentor to all who had the privilege of meeting him. John was a highly distinguished hotelier with appointments across the world that included Manager of the St. Regis Hotel New York, Pan Pacific Hotel Vancouver, Empress Hotel Victoria, and Scottsdale Princess Hotel Arizona. He was named Executive Vice President Operations Fairmont Hotels, Executive Vice President Europe Africa Middle East Fairmont Hotels based in London, and many more across the world.

John was selfless with his time and dedicated so much of it to the growth and prosperity of the hospitality sector, with volunteer positions that included being Chair of Tourism British Columbia, Chair of Vancouver Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Chair of Royal British Columbia Museum, among others.

John's contribution to the past, present, and future generations of the hotel sector is unparalleled and we thank him for the tremendous role he played in being a true leader of our time.
Whistler Blackcomb & Big White Ski Resort Named Most Popular in the World!

A new global study by money.co.uk, titled “Where the World Wants to Go Skiing," revealed that Whistler ranked #5 and Big White ranked #12 in the world for most popular!

The publication analyzed Google search data from over 1,100 ski getaways to see which were the most searched for by people around the world, by looking at terms for “ski [resort]." We congratulate both ski resorts for ranking and attracting visitors from across the world!
