The CHHP Advantage | Crafted by Hotels, For Hotels

In the pursuit of providing unparalleled value to our members, we were pleased to launch the Canadian Hospitality Health Plan (CHHP) last week with our partners at the Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association.

Born out of an extensive review of available programs and a commitment to addressing the evolving needs of our industry, CHHP is more than an employee benefits program – it's a hotel-owned solution built by hotels, for hotels.

With CHHP, your benefits are not just a program; they are a collective strength built by and for the vibrant community of hotels.

The CHHP Advantage:

  1. A Collective Ownership Model: Following an in-depth review, we recognized the unique opportunity to create a collective ownership model. This model allows our members to leverage their collective strength, resulting in a cost-effective and industry-specific program.
  2. Immediate Cost Savings: CHHP boasts a leaner industry-owned cost structure, leading to immediate savings for our members. By removing insurer mark-ups on health and dental benefits, we're putting your business first.
  3. Tailored for Hospitality: CHHP is tailored to address the distinctive needs of the hospitality industry. From cost stabilization through the "Aggregated Benefits Model" to ownership benefits, this program is designed with your business in mind.
  4. Exceptional Program Management: In collaboration with Avance Insurance Services and administered by Johnston Group – a platinum member of Canada's Best Managed Companies – CHHP ensures platinum-level service and professionalism.

Federal Government's Fall Economic Statement Unveils Transformative Measures

Earlier today, the Federal Government revealed its Fall Economic Statement, addressing critical concerns about the short-term rental market and supporting the development of new rental housing. The outlined federal actions target illegal short-term rental operators, foreseeing the migration of tens of thousands of units from platforms like Airbnb to the long-term rental market. Effective from 2024, non-compliance with municipal regulations will result in the inability to claim expenses against rental income, backed by a $50 million fund over three years for regulatory pursuits. The government is set to explore data sharing on short-term rentals for enhanced compliance with provincial or municipal laws. Section 1.3 emphasizes the crackdown on non-compliant short-term rentals, while Section 1.1 underscores federal support for new rental housing, including the removal of GST on new construction and program expansions. While hotel qualification remains uncertain, advocacy efforts aim to include hotels in the ongoing program development, marking a positive turn for Canadians seeking long-term housing on top of the recent regulation changes in BC.
