Fall Economic Statement 2022 Released
The Government of Canada (GOC) released the Fall Economic Statement 2022 (FES) last week. It includes:
  • Regulation of credit card transaction fees (negotiate lower credit card transaction fees for small businesses)
  • New spending for a Youth Employment and Skills Strategy Program, including $400M to the Canada Summer Jobs program
  • Investment of an additional $1.6 B to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) over the next six years to address delays in processing applications  
The BCHA will continue to monitor these initiatives and update members.

Hospitality Sector Gets Boost Through Expanded Hours During World Cup
Bars and pubs in B.C. can temporarily extend operating hours during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, giving fans extra time at their venue of choice to watch the Canadian men’s national soccer team compete during late-night and early-morning hours.

Great News! Food Delivery Service Fee Act Made Permanent
The Food Delivery Service Fee Act limits fees for core services that delivery companies can charge bars, pubs, and restaurants to a maximum of 20 per cent. The act also prohibits delivery companies from reducing driver compensation, ensuring employees and contractors continue to be paid their wages and gratuities.
