Message from BCHA Chair, Bryan Pilbeam
Good afternoon accommodation community,

Today, we celebrate and welcome Christine Louden, Hotel Manager of the Granville Island Hotel, and Angie Eccleston, General Manager of Crest Hotel, to the BC Hotel Association Board of Directors.

Following an almost decade long stint at Prestige Hotels, where she worked her way from Assistant Manager to General Manager at a number of properties, Angie relocated to Prince Rupert where she assumed the role of General Manager of Crest Hotel. During this time, she took a brief hiatus from our BCHA Board of Directors, but with her sights set on supporting our industry through its next phase of recovery, Angie is delighted to return to her seat. And as a result, we could not be happier to have Angie’s wisdom, creativity, and tenacity back on our board.

Equally, we are delighted to welcome our newest board director, Christine Louden. Christine has spent the last 20 years working her way up from switchboard operator to hotel manager. Her experience includes mastering jobs such as front desk, reservations, switchboard, revenue management, sales, and conference and event planning. Christine is currently on maternity leave from her job as the hotel manager at the Granville Island Hotel and has worked at the property on and off for over 10 years. This unique property allows Christine to not only run a beautiful award-winning hotel but also support and engage with Granville Island’s artisan community through the Granville Island Business and Community Association. Christine is passionate, hardworking, and will make an exceptional addition to our board of directors.
While we celebrate this new chapter, we also would like to recognize Brian Rohl, Director, Corporate Purchasing with Coast Hotels Limited, who has resigned from his role as BCHA Board Director to make room for new and diverse perspectives as part of the 50-30 challenge – BCHA’s diversity and inclusion initiative, launched in 2020, to achieve diverse representation across our board of directors.

Since joining our board, Brian has been an incredible asset and has worked tirelessly to support our sector through the challenges that recent years have brought our industry. Self-branded as the “Corporate Hippy” and an active climate leader with the United States Vice President Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project, Brian’s care, compassion, and forward-thinking shines through in all that he undertakes. He is a sincere and dedicated champion for all and we greatly appreciate all the positive work that Brian has contributed during his time on our board.

We look forward to continuing to keep our members updated on the changes to our Board of Directors.

Sincerely,

Bryan Pilbeam
Chair

“Museums hold a unique power to reflect and shape our society, addressing key social issues to transform how we see the future" said Ingrid Jarrett, President and CEO of the BC Hotel Association. "B.C. has a distinct and often painful history. To have a space that is a true reflection of the incredible complexity of B.C.'s landscape and its people will be foundational to education and growth, while also being a key economic driver for our hospitality and tourism community."
GVBOT Blog on Impacts of Bill 10
The Greater Vancouver Board of Trade has released a new guest blog post by Ryan Copeland, Mike Hamata and Andrew Nicholl at Roper Greyell LLP, exploring Bill 10. The blog outlines that the posed bill weakens the democratic rights of workers and undercuts fairness, clarity and certainty for workers and employers.

Furthermore, it significantly weakens the democratic right for workers to exercise choice through a secret ballot. In the article, the new certification process is explored along with what it means for employers.

Incident Investigation Reports Can Now Be Completed Online
WorkSafeBC is pleased to announce a new online tool to make it easier for employers to complete and submit employer incident investigation reports (EIIRs). EIIRs play a crucial role in keeping workplaces safe by helping determine why an incident happened and what can be done to prevent similar situations in the future.

Please note, under the Workers Compensation Act, employers are responsible for investigating certain incidents or near-misses that take place in the workplace and completing reports at specific points in the process.
