BCHA Announces Partnerships with Trusted Immigration Consultants
Are you actively recruiting for your property with no luck? Are you interested in exploring employment of foreign workers?

Hiring outside of Canada can be an excellent solution to your recruitment needs but it can be a complicated and challenging to navigate. On top of the arduous and time-consuming paperwork, there are some immigration companies that do not follow proper procedures and protocol, making it hard to know who to trust.

To provide BCHA members with trusted resources for their immigration needs, we are delighted to share that we have extensively vetted and solidified partnerships with the following immigration companies. All three offer services to support your needs, while staying in compliance with necessary protocols. Contact them today:

Mandatory Random Testing to
Resume for Air Travellers
Mandatory random testing will resume as of July 19, 2022, for travellers who qualify as fully vaccinated, arriving in Canada by air to the four major Canadian airports, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto.

All testing for air travellers, for both those who qualify as fully vaccinated and partially or unvaccinated people, will be completed outside of airports, either via an in-person appointment at select testing provider locations and pharmacies, or a virtual appointment for a self-swab test.

Mandatory random testing continues at land border points of entry, with no changes.

Removing barriers to travel continues to be a key advocacy priority for the BC Hotel Association and our provincial / national counterparts. We will continue to keep you updated on this work.
Final Reminder! Okanagan
Upskilling Opportunity
The BCHA is deeply committed to providing solutions to industry's workforce crisis. Since January 2022, we have been actively working with Western Community College and the Progressive Intercultural Community Services on the Hotel Operations Skills Services Training program.

This is a fully funded upskilling program, designed to meet our industry’s workforce needs by providing unemployed or underemployed individuals with hospitality-specific skills and work experience.

Participants complete a 16-week occupational skills training program, which includes all aspects of hotel operations from housekeeping to front desk. The training is followed by an 80-hour practicum, providing them real-life application of their skills and experience, and offers the participating hotel an opportunity to easily hire candidates to their team.

Registration is currently open for unemployed or underemployed individuals looking to expand their career in the Okanagan region. For more information please contact Claudia Tran at 604.596.7722 ext. 177; claudia.tran@pics.bc.ca

For hotels who may be interested in candidate recruitment during the final phase of the 23 week program, please contact Alison Langford at alison@bcha.com .
New: Projections of Tourism
Employment Demand
Just released by Tourism HR Canada, a new report projects tourism labour supply and demand through to 2025. The report focuses on job demand from the business perspective, but also discusses labour challenges along the road to recovery.
The MICHELIN Guide
is Coming to Vancouver
MICHELIN® Guide is coming to Vancouver!

Destination Vancouver celebrated the announcement today at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts (PICA) with students from both PICA and Vancouver Community College’s School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts. These teams collaborated on designing, preparing and presenting a unique menu for a reception to celebrate the launch.

Extension Announced for
Tourism Growth Strategy Feedback
The Government of Canada wants to hear from Canadian tourism stakeholders as it charts the path forward for the sector. Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is conducting a public consultation on the development of a post-pandemic Federal Tourism Growth Strategy--including a focus on labour gaps and instability. The consultation period now ends August 3.
The BCHA will be submitting our own recommendations and feedback - should you wish to include any comments or feedback, please reach out to Kelsey@bcha.com.
