Grant Opportunities for Individuals

The Center for Cultural Innovation is offering two grant opportunities to individual artists throughout California. 


CALI Catalyst provides unrestricted grants of up to $7,500 to California changemakers who are shifting the arts and culture sector in ways that tangibly give underrepresented voices more power and influence.

The Quick Grant program awards reimbursement funds up to $600 to California artists, creatives, cultural practitioners and cultural producers to participate in professional development activities that build administrative capacity, hone business skills and strengthen the financial resilience of the grantee’s practice.

Susan Brooker Named Artistic Director

of American Ballet Theatre William J. Gillespie School

The Segerstrom Center for the Arts has announced that Susan Brooker has been appointed as the Artistic Director of the American Ballet Theatre William J. Gillespie School, effective August 1. Brooker will oversee all levels of the ABT Gillespie Children’s Division (Pre-Primary to Level 3) and Pre-Professional Division (Level 4 and above), as well as the OC Young Dancer Summer Workshop, master class series, and summer dance programs at Segerstrom Center for the Arts.

Frida Cinema Honored by Orange

County School of the Arts

Santa Ana’s Frida Cinema was recognized by the Orange County School of the Arts with a Community Partner Award at the school’s season finale, which was held at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in March. The Frida Cinema is Orange County’s only 501(c)(3) non-profit art house theatre, programming independent, foreign and classic films on two screens. Founded in 2014, the Frida Cinema has partnered with dozens of organizations, and recently began administering the Downtown Santa Ana First Saturday Artswalk.

In Memoriam 

Self-described dyed-in-the-wool theatre junkie Tom Titus passed away on Friday, June 2 at the age of 85. In addition to the 55 years he spent as theatre critic for the Daily Pilot and Los Angeles Times Orange County, he also was well known as an actor and director of local productions, highlighted by the 31 years he served as Artistic Director of the Irvine Community Theatre. Titus was recognized by ArtsOC with the Helena Modjeska Cultural Legacy Award at the 2021 Orange County Arts Awards.
