Foundation of Friends
For the third year in a row, our membership drive has surpassed $40,000. The current drive has brought in $44,415.00 from 286 donors. When we created the FOF we never imagined the kind of support we could generate for the library. Your support has enabled us to fund the following projects:
Our work isn't done. We will continue to fund special projects for the library, as well as work on long term financial stability. This year's membership drive runs through April. If you wish to support the FOF's mission, you may do so at https://www.ivpl.org/becoming-a-friend.

If you use hoopla® through IVPL, you’ll experience some service changes beginning this month (January 2023).
We are implementing a budget cap on our hoopla service, which means that once the library has spent its budgeted amount of money on hoopla checkouts per day, no more checkouts will be allowed for anyone until the next day begins.
We know that hoopla is a popular service with our patrons. We love offering hoopla to patrons and will continue to do so. To make the service sustainable within the confines of the library’s budget, we’ve had to set this new limit.
This change does not affect Libby/OverDrive. If you have questions about the new hoopla limits, send a note to refdesk@ivpl.org.
Do you have new or gently used Pokemon cards that need a new home? Consider donating them to the library. The Youth Services Department is planning to start an after school Pokemon Meet-up Club and needs cards to expand this program.

This class is a roundtable discussion of different classic education texts, both ancient and modern, to explore different educational ideas. We read texts ahead of class from authors such as Plato, Aristotle, Barr, and Holt and come prepared to openly discuss the learning principles put forward by each author. We meet monthly to discuss a different text each time, so registration will be needed to sign up for each class separately. Once registered, the PDFs of the text that you will need to read ahead of time will be emailed to you.
About the Instructor: Jonathan English is excited to start a community group that explores a variety of educational ideas and techniques. As a former homeschooler and graduate of St. John’s College Great Books classics program, he has long had an interest in learning how to learn and how to help others along the way. He has experience teaching in public schools, private schools, and homeschool academies with all age levels and subjects. He has worked closely with an MAT program to develop this course of reading that will increase civic dialogue to improve the educational experience for all. Jonathan currently oversees the beginner’s chess program at the library and enjoys spending time outside, drinking tea, and reading books.

In conformity with the goals of Dialogue without Frontiers, the purpose of the event is to promote an open, civil, and constructive discussion of important issues of public interest at a time of growing polarization. Through an honest dialogue, the program is intended to shed the light of better understanding of events surrounding the Israel-Hamas War.

From 1987 -2015, he hosted Issues And Insights, a campus interview/talk show and a lecture series program that was designed to expose the college and community to matters of public interests. We will also provide a demonstration on soil blocking, an increasingly popular and sustainable method for seed starting.
About the presenter: After Dr. Alanna Messner-Scholl stepped back from her career in mental healthcare to focus on raising her two young children, she began flower gardening as a light-hearted hobby. The garden eventually grew (literally and figuratively!) into Wavy Roo Florals, a studio flower shop using primarily local, homegrown flowers.
