Increased Fraud Activity in Montgomery County
Dear Dealers,
So far this August, Montgomery County has seen 20 cars stolen from several dealerships. In almost every case burglars have found unsecured keys and used them to steal the vehicles.
In a new twist, we have received reports that a 12 year old, who is not able to be arrested due to restrictive laws placed on police officers, has broken into several Montgomery county dealerships and stolen cars while vandalizing the buildings. He is a repeat offender. We are told that this is a nightly occurrence. The 12 year must be taken home by uniformed officers because none of Maryland juvenile services will take on the burden of this young person. The police are desperately appealing to the state to do something with this child because his mother refuses to address the issue.
While this process plays out, the 12 year old continues to attempt to steal vehicles because he knows nothing can happen to him, other than a ride home. We wanted you to be aware so that you can have your staff and secruity personnel be extra diligent in the days to come. We are attempting to obtain more details and will release them as they become available.
