Dear Friends,

We are into the last days of summer, and it is hard to believe how quickly the seasons come and go. We are also well into our second year of COVID, and it does not appear to be going anywhere at this time as we see surges across the country and long lines at testing centers once again. Our consistent message to everyone is to mask up and please get vaccinated.

This month, the guest editor of our newsletter, Professor Dorothy Wholihan, addresses two complex topics- dementia and palliative care. Palliative Care is so misunderstood as it is often thought of as end-of-life care instead of care that provides comfort at any stage of illness. It is especially important for people with dementia whose needs, especially related to pain, are so often unclear.

Please take time to savor these days and have a safe remainder of the summer.

Warmly,
