NYMC is pleased to announce the appointment of Erika Berman Rosenzweig, M.D., as chair of the Department of Pediatrics at NYMC School of Medicine. She will also serve as director of the Department of Pediatrics at Westchester Medical Center and the William Russell McCurdy Physician-in-Chief at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital

Doctor Etienne and his Changemakers Award

Mill Etienne, M.D. '02, M.P.H., vice chancellor of diversity and inclusion, associate dean of student affairs and associate professor of neurology and of medicine, received the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Changemaker Award at the 2024 AAN annual meeting in Denver, Colorado, on April 14. The award recognizes an AAN member who has made a meaningful contribution within their academic institution by increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Dr. Etienne presented “Bias, Blind Spots, and the Brain: Moving from Agnosia to Aphasia” at the program.

Tiwari, Ph.D., right, professor of pathology, microbiology and immunology and associate professor of otolaryngology, along with five graduate students, presented their work at the American Association for Cancer Research Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, from April 5 – 10. 

Danielle Quaranto presented, “Long non-coding RNA LINC01614 decreases carcinogenic behavior of papillary thyroid cancer in vitro.” 

Nicole DeSouza presented, “Long non-coding RNA DUXAP10 serves as a putative driver of anaplastic thyroid cancer carcinogenesis.”

Michelle Carnazza presented, “Collagen COL26A1 correlates with poor papillary thyroid cancer prognosis and in vitro characteristics of metastasis indicating a potential role as a biomarker or therapeutic target.” 

Tara Jarboe presented, “Remodeling of anaplastic thyroid cancer's metabolic signature by natural alkaloid Berberine.” 

Kaci Kopec presented, “Differentiation driver gene HOXD4 as a potential prognostic marker and therapeutic target in anaplastic thyroid cancer.”

NYMC and TU present Yom Hashoah: Holocaust Remembrance Day on Thursday, May 2. Keynote speaker Hedy Wald, Ph.D., adjunct assistant professor of clinical biomedical humanities and ethics at NYMC; clinical professor of family medicine, Alpert Medical School of Brown University; and commissioner, Lancet Commission on Medicine, Nazism, and the Holocaust, will provide her address on the legacy of Medicine during the Holocaust and its contemporary relevance.
