Kingdom Wins: St. Matthews Sonora and Stephens Ministry

St Matthews Sonora has embraced the Stephens Ministry program and now has two Stephens Ministry trainers and seventeen trained Stephens Ministers! Under the able leadership of Stephens Ministry trainers and church members Lynn Crook and Mark Chaffee, a very enthusiastic group of church members have met over the course of two and a half years and completed 150 hours of training.

The training group, which included Pastor Tom Sharpe, has formed a bond and supports one another as they use their skills for Care Receivers who are both church and community members, as well as using their skills informally with each other and their families. All agree the effect of this training has been positive for the participants and the church!

Presentation on Fatherhood Available for Viewing

Benicia Lutheran Church in Benicia, CA, is a close-knit faith family that looks for ways to reach out to their community. On June 15, the church hosted a talk on fatherhood, focusing on the relationship of God as our Father and our "picture" of who God is. Dr. Ryan Rippee gave a powerful presentation that was well received by the attendees and received numerous favorable comments.

Paul Ferguson Accepts Call

The Reverend L. Paul Ferguson, Jr. has accepted the call extended by the CNH District’s Board of Directors to serve as the Assistant to the President – Strategic Mission Leadership. Paul has been the senior pastor of Our Savior, Rockwall, Texas since 2008. Prior to his time in Rockwall, he served as pastor at St. Andrew, Houston, TX and as associate pastor at St. Paul, Rockford, IL.

Paul has actively fostered partnerships and relationships with multiethnic congregations in every church he has served, including Latino, Pakistani, and Korean communities.

Paul graduated from Concordia University, Austin, Texas with a B.A. in Business Management, and from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana with a Master of Divinity. Paul has had the privilege of being active in the community with many different activities ranging from Pastor of the Day on a local and state level, serving as a Police Chaplain, and serving on various Boards of Directors. For the last 22 years Paul has served as a Chaplain in the US Air Force where he has deployed to Antarctica and the Middle East. His most recent (and last) assignment has him serving as the Wing Chaplain for the 136th Airlift Wing in Fort Worth, Texas. His retirement from the military is set for later this year.

Paul was born and raised in Plano, Texas. He is married to Jennifer, whom he met while attending college in Austin. They have four children: Caitlyn, LaurieAnne, Cassandra, and Samuel. Along with running (he has completed two marathons and 13 half-marathons), he likes to play golf, read, play guitar, embarrass his children, and spend time with his family.

Welcome to the CNH District, Paul! God's continued blessings to you in your ministry!

Monthly Prayer Group Prays for the District

Did you know that a group of people faithfully prays each month for the ministries of the CNH District? People from various District congregations meet the first Saturday of each month via Zoom to pray for:

Missions: Local, International, Hawaii, Nevada

CNH District Staff, 1 in Every One, Special Needs

Each month, a list of specific prayer requests are generated from the District office. Recently, Chuck Mellick from St. Paul’s, Tracy, CA, has been leading these meetings. A District staff member also joins, to give updates, as needed.

This group has been meeting faithfully for over ten years! We thank God for these faithful prayer warriors! If you are interested in joining this group, please contact Renee Lawrence.
