Rev. Kevin Hempe was installed as the Pastor of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pacifica, CA on July 13th. His friend, Rev. Paul Miller, delivered the homily. Several local pastors participated, including 98-year-old CNH emeritus pastor, Al Zutz, who made the trip from Palm Desert. Pastor Hempe and his wife Yolanda were members at Trinity Lutheran Church in Indio, CA, where he was ordained after graduating from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne this past spring.

Enroll in this opportunity to learn the difference between “interim” ministry and “regular” ministry and to discern your gifts for intentional interim ministry. The workshop is designed for pastors and judicatory leaders. The workshop is a two-hour online learning event.

The Michigan District is offering an Interim Ministry Discernment event as in-person conference over three days, September 23-25 (noon-noon). While the conference is free to those serving in the Michigan District, there is a nominal cost for materials and for those pastors attending from outside MI District, housing and food will be billed to them or to their respective District Offices. Benicia Lutheran Church offered a free Day Camp, July 15-19, with over 50 children registered and average daily attendance of 46. The five leaders from Mt. Cross and the five leaders from Leaven Kids, a Christian after-school program, connected very well with the campers. BLC served lunches and snacks at no cost to the campers. The program was well received - as  one mother said about her son, “He has been beaming each day.”

It was a blessing to the several Junior Volunteers as well as to the campers. While the campers were from the Benicia and Vallejo area, one Junior Volunteer was from Las Vegas and one of the Mt. Cross leaders came from Malaysia as part of an exchange program.

The LCMS Interim Ministry Conference (IMC) seeks to contract a part-time Executive Director to help carry out the regularly occurring functions of their Board of Directors. The IMC promotes and coordinates the health and development of transitional interim ministry in the LCMS in coordination with the Council of Presidents.
