Opening soon? Schedule an Educational Inspection!
Did you know we offer a scheduled pre-season educational inspection in lieu of an unannounced routine inspection? Any violations observed will not be reported on our website. These inspections focus on items that need to be corrected prior to reopening to protect bathers from illness or injury.
The sun shelf has been shelved
Sun shelves (AKA baja shelf, underwater shelf, tanning shelf) are becoming a popular addition to new-construction pools. Typically they are 12-18" inches deep, sometimes have built in furniture, and are intended for adult lounging.

Due to concerns around ADA accessibility and child safety, the Department of Health (DOH) has asked that all new reviews and approvals of sun shelves cease while they work to develop rules around this feature. Designs that are ADA compliant with a zero-depth entry or ramp may be considered.

*This does not affect designs that have already been approved, are under construction, or are already built.

Summer Is Coming - Make Sure You Are Ready
  • Review all emergency equipment such as life ring with rope, 12-ft hook, first aid kit, and safety signage.
  • Verify emergency shut-off and emergency phone works.
  • Assess your deck for trip hazards and check handrails are fastened tightly
  • Go through your chemical testing kit and replace any expired or fouled reagents (don't forget DPD powder!)
  • Check drain covers, inlets, outlets, and skimmers for entrapment risks such as loose screws, cracks, or missing covers.
