Last week, Pharisees and Herodians attempted to undermine Jesus with a false dilemma. False dilemmas oversimplify complicated issues by offering only two possibilities, which are never comprehensive and manipulate unsuspecting victims into making bad choices. Tricksters blame the victim for making a bad choice, and victims may even blame themselves. Defending against false dilemmas, wise persons always recognize more than two possibilities.
The challenge to stewardship is that money is perceived as a zero-sum game of either (a) generously give to the church and foolishly have no money left, or (b) selfishly keep the money and let the church suffer. This is oversimplified and not creative.
Faithful giving fulfills the greatest commandments of loving God, our neighbor, and ourselves. Faithful giving lets go of fear and competition and considers how courage and joy lead to giving that cares for basic needs while caring for others, the church, and our faith.
Faithful giving does not claim that we deserve all worldly comforts, which do not bring peace. However, if God's care and provision is trusted, it is possible to live peacefully with less, make a greater impact on the world, and grow in joy and happiness. Good stewardship's goal is to grow in love and faithfulness through creativity.
The good news is that God does not want us to suffer, nor does God want our lives selfishly distracted from peace. God desires that life prepares for eternity by helping us be better stewards, that is, creative people who find ways to use money, prayers, presence, service, and witness in ways that love God and others as we love ourselves.

QUICK FACTS ABOUT OUR SOLAR INSTALLATION:
Number of Panels: 183 (129 on Education wing, 54 on Sanctuary)
System Size (DC): 65.7
Expected First Year Production: 86,330 Kwh
|
|
On a particularly cold and cloudy October day (Wednesday, October 21), with final Ameren meter updates in place, the Solar PV generation system switched to operational. The power collected is not "free," since we are in a power generating purchase agreement with Hawk-Attollo, who installed the equipment at no cost to us. We will see a reduction in our fees and utility taxes first, and the rate is slightly cheaper than grid rates, and will increase slower than anticipated grid rates. We will be able to purchase the system in seven years, at a reduced cost. The system will operate for the next forty years. Plans are being put together for a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony to be held soon.

ENTRUST SERMON SERIES
NOVEMBER 2020
|
The life and health of the church is dependent on the commitments and responsibilities of its members. When everyone sees themselves as needed, responsible, and contributing, then amazing transformations can happen. The call to faithful service is not always easy to respond to, but all things are possible when we realize how much God loves us and trusts the church to care for the world.

The rescheduled pumpkins arrived on Monday, October 19 around 10 am, and were unloaded by our youth group and youth parents at 2 pm.
The youth group has been pricing and sorting the inventory each afternoon, with a majority of pumpkins being priced $15 or less.
