What does it mean to be deeply committed Christians, growing in faith every day? How do we become fully engaged and flourishing in the Christian life? For the next five weeks (January 30 - February 27), we will explore a model for Christian discipleship, built around five essential practices-- practices that we engage in both collectively and individually in order to more fully follow Jesus. Join us as together we worship, grow, serve, give, and share--closing the spiritual gap in our lives.
Probably the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of habits and practices for Christian discipleship is worship. The second is likely prayer. One of these is done in a community; the other is encouraged as an individual as well as community practice.
Scripture is filled with stories and descriptions of worship, and it is noted that Jesus went to the weekly gathering held at village synagogues "as was his custom." If we are desiring to imitate Christ in our lives and living, then a steady worship attendance record is essential. Worship is the primary and appropriate response of the creature to the Creator. The ultimate worship scene is found in the book of Revelation chapter 4, where the 24 elders, 12 tribes of Israel, and the 12 apostles take their crowns and cast them down while the winged creatures sing: "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power because you created all things. It is by your will that they existed and were created."
A committed Christian life requires regular worship and prayer. May you join us in worship and prayer this Sunday.

The Dover Elevator (1993-2021) is out of service. An estimate for motherboard replacement is about $5,000. Bodine Electric has been here to assess and estimate the necessary electric service work completed to upgrade/modernize the elevator. The trustees already have provided funds for the modernization project. Those with limited mobility are encouraged to connect to worship online. |

CHURCH ACTIVITIES: We are monitoring the county situation involving the surge of COVID-19 cases. At this time, we will continue to have in-person as well as online worship. Prairie Avenue Christian Church will abide by State of Illinois law, which currently has a mandatory indoor mask mandate. Masks are encouraged, especially in situations where social distancing is not possible.
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES: The Dove, Inc. Children's Clothing Room is CLOSED until further notice. Limited community activity is permitted, with COVID-19 guidelines required.
