There is something you need to stop doing. And you know it but have yet to do it.
We encounter Samson this weekend to explore the other side of Habits! How to stop one.
Bad habits begin the same way as good ones: you gave yourself permission to do it. You made it your choice, then your lifestyle. We rarely end up in the wrong place because of one bad choice. Where we ended up was where our journey took us.
Samson travels to Gaza, about 25 miles from his Israelite hometown of Zorah. Gaza is the capital of the Philistines, Israel's coastal enemies. And to do what? To see a prostitute. This is not going to end well.
And he walked to his people's enemies' stronghold. 25 miles! That is 56,250 steps!
Good habits have timelines that begin with difficulty but pay off in the future. Bad habits have timelines that begin with immediate benefits, but consequences in the future. The cigarette for stress becomes the decades later cancer diagnosis. The poor diet choices and lack of exercise today lead to future diabetes. The habits you have today will shape whom you will become tomorrow. Do you like the direction your habits are taking you? Change the triggers (place, time, mood, moment, people) and you can change the direction.
Somewhere between 1 and 56,249, Samson could have stopped. Do you want to continue the journey, or stop, change, and end up where you need to be?

The Dover Elevator (1993-2021) is out of service. An estimate for motherboard replacement is about $5,000. Bodine Electric has been here to assess and estimate the necessary electric service work completed to upgrade/modernize the elevator. The trustees already have provided funds for the modernization project. Those with limited mobility are encouraged to connect to worship online. |

CHURCH ACTIVITIES: We are monitoring the county situation involving the surge of COVID-19 cases. At this time, we will continue to have in-person as well as online worship. Prairie Avenue Christian Church will abide by State of Illinois law, which currently has a mandatory indoor mask mandate. Masks are encouraged, especially in situations where social distancing is not possible.
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES: The Dove, Inc. Children's Clothing Room is CLOSED until further notice. Limited community activity is permitted, with COVID-19 guidelines required.
