Councillor Claire Newman: In Memoriam

UBCM Executive and staff are saddened to hear of the passing of Merritt Councillor Claire Newman last week.



Claire was just six months into her first term as a councillor in Merritt, but had served as a councillor in Logan Lake for 14 years. She was on her way to pick up her husband in Alberta, when she was struck by a vehicle on July 4 near Valemount.

TODAY: Province seeking feedback on decriminalization & public use policy

The Province is doing policy work to support possible legislation to regulate the use of drugs in certain public spaces. Local government elected officials and senior leadership staff are invited to participate in an online engagement session today from 1 – 2:30 pm. To register email Ministry staff with your name(s), contact information, the name of your local government. The Ministry is also accepting written comments until July 31.

Reponses from the Province to

UBCM’s 2022 Resolutions

At last year’s Convention, UBCM members passed several resolutions that involve the Provincial government’s jurisdiction. The Province has now provided its responses to the provincially-focused resolutions. These responses will also be shared with each sponsoring local government in a letter.
