Ontario Expands Alcohol Sales for Greater Choice and Convenience Starting This Summer

The Ontario government is accelerating its plan to expand the alcohol beverage marketplace, enhancing consumer choice and convenience. Starting August 2024, grocery stores selling wine or beer will also offer ready-to-drink beverages and larger pack sizes. By October 2024, all convenience, grocery, and big-box stores in Ontario will be able to sell beer, cider, wine, and ready-to-drink beverages. Read more.

ADVOCATING FOR YOU: Associate Ministry of Small Business

The COVID-19 pandemic dealt a severe blow to the hospitality industry, with businesses enduring prolonged hardship and slow recovery. Despite initial government support, rising expenses, including labor and food costs, continue to burden restaurants and hotels, which operate on thin margins. ORHMA met with the Associate Ministry of Small Business to discuss a list of recommendations that would be helpful to the hospitality sector in your recovery from the pandemic and your long-term sustainability. Licensing Requirement for Temporary Help Agencies and Recruiters 

Starting July 1, 2024, under the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA), temporary help agencies and recruiters must be licensed to operate in Ontario. Clients and employers are prohibited from using the services of unlicensed agencies or recruiters. If an application is made before July 1, 2024, and a decision is pending, the agency or recruiter can continue to operate until a decision is made. Read more.
