We're Looking for a Gas Grill

Summer is approaching and we would love to have a gas grill (or 2) for the cookouts and pitch ins we are planning for summer. We also realized that a grill is a great way to cook our hot dogs for other events like Fall Fest and Spring Fest. Think of All Souls if you are upgrading your grill and have one to donate or simply would like to donate a grill. Contact: faithformation@allsoulsindy.org.

Teddy Rayhill Will Be Performing in Cinderella May 9th - May 11th

Come and see Teddy Rayhill in Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella" at Carmel High School. Teddy plays Jean-Michel, who sounds like a UU: "A feisty, passionate peasant determined to make a change for the starving class"!

There are four performances from Thursday May 9th to Saturday May 11th. Get your tickets here. (If you have trouble with the link, search "Carmel High School Cinderella", and click on "Tickets".)

Don't Throw Away Your Eclipse Viewing Glasses!

Eclipse Glasses USA is collecting used (but undamaged) eclipse glasses to share with schools in Latin America so school-aged children can view the eclipse in August of this year. Bring your glasses to the church and we will send a package of all glasses collected.

Get to Know Your Capital Planning Committee

During recent All Souls gatherings or a Town Hall, you may have heard references to the

“Capital Planning Committee.” This group was chartered in February as an official standing committee of the Board of Trustees, and is responsible for developing a long-term plan and informed projections for the All Souls building and grounds and maintenance investments and needs, as well as board-approved carbon neutral goals. Its evaluations of available options include financial considerations, cost-benefit analyses, forecasted need and optimal utilization based on congregational size, activities, and goals. Reporting directly to the board, the Capital Planning Committee works closely with the Finance Committee in advising the board on major building and grounds purchases and improvements. Members of this new committee are chairperson Betty Lynch, Bruce Russell-Jayne, Matt Miller, Ron Kieper, Ellen Mathia and Bonnie Haruch-Kenyon.

Social Justice Corner

Environmental Racism in Indianapolis

On Sunday, March 24th, All Souls hosted an excellent presentation by Benjamin Clark, from the Unearthed Speakers Bureau via a grant from the Indiana Humanities Council. The presentation, entitled, “The Slow Violence of Environmental Racism in Indianapolis” covered how white supremacy in our city has long influenced policy decisions which have routinely decimated the environmental resources of non-white communities.

Clark focused on his work with the Riverside and Martindale-Brightwood communities, and also discussed his current role with the Indy Toxic Heritage project team (https://toxicheritage.com). The team is gathering narratives and research to create a traveling exhibit to educate and encourage conversation in recognition of the environmental damage done to Indianapolis’s most vulnerable communities. The exhibit will appear at select Indy Park locations beginning this summer.

Finally, for those who wish to connect with Indiana organizations who are working towards environmental justice, Clark recommended the following:

You can watch the entire presentation here.

If there are things you would like to see included in this section, please reach out Dorian Condre and/or Julia VanDeren.
