Mentoring is a privilege and an honor. Successful mentoring can be immensely rewarding and will propel life-long career success for our trainees. Because mentoring is critical to our academic mission, Alyssa Hasty, PhD, Vice Provost and Senior Associate Dean of the Office of Faculty Affairs and Career Development will launch the new UT Southwestern Research Mentor Training Program this fall. This program is a collaboration between the Graduate School of Biomedical Science, Women’s Careers, the NIH FIRST Program, the NCATS CTSA KL2/K12 Program, and the Office of Faculty Development.
Our Research Mentor Training curriculum is adapted from Entering Mentoring developed by the University of Wisconsin’s Center for Improvement of Mentoring Experiences in Research (CIMER). We will initially offer three identical sessions to accommodate the anticipated high demand. The sessions include guided discussions, evidence-based practices, case studies, and interactive activities. Our faculty facilitators are certified by CIMER.
Please note that NIH and NSF now require evidence of structured in-person mentorship training for training grant applications. Effective January 2025, our Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences requires mentorship training for those who apply as new or renewal members of Graduate Programs. Each of the 4-hour Modules offered below will satisfy this Graduate School requirement.
Please sign up early. The group size is limited to 25 per session, on a first-come, first-served basis. Light breakfast will be served. If your availability changes, please let Traci Barros know so that your slot can be reallocated to another faculty member on the waitlist.
