Masters Association Board Meeting 8/14/2024

New Addition to the Master Team!

Please join us in welcoming our newest team member, Susan Roy, to the Master Association staff. Susan brings a wealth of experience as an IT and administrative professional, having worked for the county’s municipalities in Massachusetts. She has been hired for the part-time administrative position and is particularly excited about coordinating the Pattern and Coverage project.

We are thrilled to have Susan on board, and her calm demeanor and positive attitude are a wonderful addition to our office. We're confident she will make a great impact on our team.

Volunteer of the Month for August

We are pleased to recognize Sandy Collins as our Volunteer of the Month. Since moving to Kings Point from Kansas City, MO in 2016, Sandy has been an active and dedicated member of the Oakley Green Association. She began her volunteer journey as the Communication Chair, where she initiated and helped implement the association website, which she continues to administer. Her commitment to the community is evident in her roles as the Landscape POC, Liaison for the Rules and Regulations Committee, and currently, the Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Directors.

Beyond Oakley Green, Sandy is a vital member of the Kings Point Master Strategic Planning Committee and the Federation Finance Committee. She also serves as a Board Member of the Greater Sun City Center Beautification Committee. Her dedication extends to the broader community, where she has volunteered alongside other Kings Point residents at the Straz Center, ensuring the best audience experience.

Sandy’s commitment to service is rooted in her extensive volunteer experience prior to moving to Kings Point. She served on the Board of the Heartland Honor Flight in Kansas City and was an enthusiastic participant with the Kansas City Betty’s, a group that delivered USO-style shows to veterans in the Midwest. Her professional career in long-term healthcare also provided numerous opportunities to volunteer and enhance the lives and communities of others.

Sandy believes that volunteering not only benefits others but also immensely enriches her own life. “Volunteering is a gift you give to yourself,” she says, encapsulating her philosophy of service.

Active Life Games for Ages 50+

Registration is now open for residents ages 50+ to participate in the annual Tampa Bay Active Life Games, a vibrant celebration of health, fitness, and camaraderie, to be held Sept. 30 to Oct. 11 at locations throughout the county. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or trying out a new sport, there is something for everyone, including bowling, pickleball, table tennis, and more. Single-day entry is $25, multiday entry is $30, and the fee for golf is $30.

Veterans Outreach Court

Local government agencies and veteran groups will once again be participating in Veterans Outreach Court. This annual event is designed to help military veterans resolve certain outstanding financial obligations.

The event will be held from 9 AM to 12 PM Friday, November 8, 2024, at the James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital Primary Care Annex, 13515 Lake Terrace Lane in Tampa.

Participating agencies include the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, the Hillsborough County Clerk of Court & Comptroller, the Hillsborough State Attorney’s Office, the Hillsborough Public Defender’s Office, Hillsborough County Veterans Services, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and various local Veterans organizations.

Judge Daryl Manning, a veteran of the U.S. Army himself, knows firsthand the sacrifice and service our veterans have offered our country. That’s why he is so passionate about this type of outreach. “Veterans Outreach Court is not a handout, but a helping hand up. It’s a way we can help these veterans get back on their feet by quickly resolving some of their legal issues. They certainly have earned this support from our community."

Participants must register in advance by Friday, October 25, 2024. Registration is free and must be completed and submitted by the due date to be considered for the event. Driving and court records will be reviewed in advance and participation will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Qualified participants will receive a Notice of Hearing with their scheduled time to appear for the event. Notices will be mailed out by October 30, 2024. Anyone ineligible will be contacted by phone. Cases that will not be addressed at this event include domestic violence, child support, felonies with active warrants, and those pending in Veterans Court. A consultation with an attorney in those cases is recommended.
