Dear Students and Stakeholders,

We are proud to announce that the Educational Support and Disability Services (ESDS) Testing Center is expanding.

The renovation could not have come at a more crucial time. Student requests for ESDS services are up 25% compared to the previous academic year.

The renovation involves enlarging the Testing Center’s physical space on the lower level of the SMC Campus Center. This expansion will allow the center to increase its seating capacity, accommodate additional UMB schools and programs, and enable accessibility improvements to better benefit students. These improvements include adding privacy partitions for each testing station, two private testing rooms, and an option for screen enlarger, as needed.

Testing Center Relocation Schedule

To prepare for the renovation, the Testing Center will temporarily relocate from the lower level of the Campus Center to the third floor.

  • May 20 – May 21, 2024: During this time, the Testing Center will be closed for relocation.
  • May 21, 2024: From 1 – 5 p.m., students, faculty, and staff will be invited to preview the temporary Testing Center space prior to reopening.
  • May 22, 2024: The Testing Center will reopen on the third floor of the Campus Center. In Room 353, students will sign-in with a Testing Center proctor and can store their belongings in lockers. Students will then complete testing in Room 351.

Testing Center Renovation Timeline

While we anticipate that the Testing Center’s renovation will be complete in late-fall 2024, please note that construction timelines are subject to change. We will provide a more comprehensive renovation timeline during the fall 2024 semester.

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding during this renovation as we enhance our support for students with disabilities. We look forward to offering improved services for the UMB community.
