ALA Johnston Families,
We are excited to welcome our Patriot family to the all-new ALA Johnston for the 22-23 school year! Preparations are fully underway, and our staff is working hard to ensure we deliver your student the best educational experience. With that in mind, we want to share that, like most projects globally, ours has experienced supply chain challenges and labor shortages. These challenges, coupled with outstanding permitting and occupancy issues, led us to make the decision to adjust our first day of school to Tuesday, August 30 (a little over a one-week delay).
The county and our partners have been very helpful; we believe plans are in place to obtain occupancy and permitting approval soon. However, because we cannot guarantee that we will have final permitting and occupancy approval before our original planned opening day of August 22, we feel this minor delay is the best course of action to give our families the certainty they need to plan for the start of school. On August 30, the following will take place:
· Upper school students (6-10) will report to the campus in the afternoon to meet their teachers, but during that time, we will prepare them for six days of temporary blended learning by providing them with the technology and packets they will need to be successful during this short time frame.
· Blended learning for the upper school will take place from August 31 through September 9 (one of the days during that period is Labor Day on September 5, and the other is a teacher planning day on September 6).
· The upper school will temporarily be participating in blended learning because we will not have permission to have students in person at the upper school until Monday, September 12.
Respectfully,
Ray Turley
