Now Available: Mediation Webinar Replay and Materials

A recording of the August 29, 2024, live webinar entitled “Mediation in Child Welfare Cases: Preparing, Participating, and Proposing Solutions” and accompanying PowerPoint presentation are now available on the Children’s Commission’s On-Demand Training and MCLE webpage.


Mediators Michelle Morgan of Morgan Law, Sean P. Healy of Healy Law, and Sonja Sims of Sims & Purzer provided an overview including what to expect, how to prepare, and how to make effective use of the benefits of mediation in child welfare cases.


The State Bar of Texas approved 1.0 hour of MCLE for the webinar, and the Texas Board of Legal Specialization approved 1.0 hour for certification in the specialty field of the Child Welfare Law.

Supporting School Aged Children in Care

The Children's Commission will host a webinar on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. entitled “Supporting School Aged Children in Care.” The webinar will explore the role of DFPS education specialists and how to best utilize them to ensure that the educational needs of school aged children in care are met.   

 

Panelists will include the following DFPS Education Specialists:  

  • Felicia Penn, State Office, moderator; 
  • Jennifer Heimbach, Region 6B;  
  • Kathy Thurman, Region 4; and  
  •  Keri Louviere, Region 5.  

 MCLE credit for this course is currently pending. This presentation will be archived and materials will be made available on the Children’s Commission website following the live webinar.
