Upcoming Webinar: Mediation in Child Welfare Cases:

Preparing, Participating, and Proposing Solutions

The Children’s Commission will host a webinar on August 29, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. entitled “Mediation in Child Welfare Cases: Preparing, Participating, and Proposing Solutions.”    


Mediators Michelle Morgan of Morgan Law, Sean P. Healy of Healy Law, and Sonja Sims of Sims & Purzer will provide an overview of the mediation process in child welfare cases and discuss how attorneys can make effective use of the benefits of mediation. The panel will cover what to expect at mediation, how to prepare, and how attorneys can negotiate solutions for their clients during mediation. 


MCLE and TBLS credit for this webinar is pending. The presentation will be archived, and materials will be available on the Children’s Commission website following the live webinar.

A recording of the June 26, 2024, live webinar entitled “Handling Your First Child Welfare Appeal,” and PowerPoint presentation are now available on the Children’s Commission’s On-Demand Training and MCLE webpage. 


Michael Hull of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and Karen Langsley of Langsley Mills Law discussed what to look for when reviewing a record, key elements of the Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure, and what to focus on when drafting a petition.

 

The State Bar of Texas approved 1.0 hours of MCLE for the webinar, and the Texas Board of Legal Specialization approved 1.0 hours for certification in the specialty fields of Child Welfare Law and Family Law.
