Upcoming Webinar: Taking Your First Child Welfare Appeal

The Children’s Commission will host a webinar on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. entitled “Taking Your First Child Welfare Appeal.”



The webinar will focus on what attorneys need to know about how to appeal a final order in a child welfare case. Michael Hull of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and Karen Langsley of Langsley Mills Law will discuss what to look for when reviewing a record, key elements of the Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure, and what to focus on when drafting a petition.


MCLE and TBLS credit is pending. This presentation will be archived and materials will be available on the Children’s Commission website following the live webinar.

Mandamus in Child Welfare Cases Webinar Replay and Materials

A recording of the May 7, 2024, live webinar entitled “Mandamus in Child Welfare Cases” and PowerPoint presentation are now available on the Children’s Commission’s On-Demand Training and MCLE webpage.


Justice Julie Countiss of the First Court of Appeals and William B. “Bill” Connolly of Connolly, Schneider, and Shireman discussed what orders are and are not subject to mandamus review, the process for a mandamus petition, and precedent resulting from mandamus review.


The State Bar of Texas approved 1.0 hours of MCLE for the webinar, and the Texas Board of Legal Specialization approved 1.0 hours of certification in the specialty fields of Child Welfare Law and Family Law.
