Understanding and Responding to Brain Injury

In June, the Council of State Governments Justice Center published the report Mind Matters: Building a Justice System that is Inclusive and Responsive to Brain Injury. This report synthesizes findings from a review of incidence of brain injury in the justice system, including interviews and focus groups. The report elevates key resources and provides best practice recommendations for building a responsive justice program.

The CSG Justice Center will host a webinar on Thursday, October 17 from 12:00-1:30 Central to discuss the findings and impact of this report. Registration for this webinar is not yet open, but more information will be posted on the CSG Justice Center Events Page.

Additionally, All Rise partnered with the National Association of State Head Injury Administrators to develop a toolkit designed to help treatment courts better identify, assess, treat, and support individuals with brain injury in their programs. “A Treatment Court Toolkit for Supporting Individuals with Acquired Brain Injury” contains an overview on why brain injury is important in the context of treatment courts, information on best practices and accommodations, and referrals for evidence-based care.

Drug and Veteran Court Program Workshops

All Rise is now accepting applications for 2025 foundational workshops for adult drug courts and veterans treatment courts – these workshops are free, interactive, in-person trainings designed for courts that have not previously participated in formal training or have had significant staff turnover. The application deadline is November 15, and spaces are expected to fill up quickly with a long waitlist, so apply quickly at the links above!
