Resource Letter for Judges and Attorneys Handling Cases Involving Mental Health and IDD

This resource letter is designed to facilitate communication among the JCMH, the judiciary, attorneys, and mental health professionals. Needs Capacity Assessment for Sequential Intercept Model

Implementation Grants


The Health and Human Services Commission has released a Needs Capacity Assessment for SIM implementation grants. The Purpose of this Assessment is to expand, enhance, or initiate behavioral health and justice collaborations in communities that have previously participated in a SIM workshop between January 1, 2021 and May 31, 2024. HHSC is soliciting applications from Local Mental Health Authorities, Local Behavioral Health Authorities, or other governmental entities.

 

HHSC will host an information session on Tuesday, May 28 at 2:00 p.m. (Central) and does not require prior registration. Additional information is available in Section 3.3 of the Assessment, which is hosted here on the HHSC SharePoint site. Users will need to request access after clicking on that link. Any questions or issues accessing the application can be directed to BHSGrants@hhs.texas.gov.

 

Free Family Violence CJE/CLE credit on

Advanced Trauma and Mental Health


Texas Lawyers for Children has announced a new section in their Legal Professional Trauma Training portal for Advanced Trauma and Mental Health training, in addition to their free 15-hour Legal Professional Trauma Training Program, which provides 15 hours of Family Violence Continuing Judicial Education (CJE) and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit.

 

These trainings, which all are eligible for CJE and CLE credit, are available at this link. Available trainings include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: A Game Changer for Traumatized Children; Navigating Intricacies in Health Complex Trauma from a Clinical Perspective; Too Great a Risk: Misdiagnosis & Inappropriate Medication of Children in Foster Care; Understanding Overuse of Psychotropic Medication in Foster Children; and Understanding Racial Trauma and Institutional Racism to Improve Cultural Competency, Race Equity, and Implicit Bias in CPS cases.
