Hurricane Ian Update

As you may know, Hurricane Ian made landfall on Wednesday, September 28, 2022. As a result, Boca Grande, Gasparilla Island, and the Englewood area sustained substantial damage. We are still in the process of surveying our rentals, both on and off the island.

Please know, there is very limited service due to the power outages and damaged cell towers. We will be getting in touch with all owners regarding any damage that may have occurred. If you are scheduled to stay in a PB Grande Vacation Rental this week, please do not come. Refunds will be issued and we will do our best to reschedule your trip as soon as possible.

The good news in all of this is that our staff is safe and our office at 428 W 4th St. sustained superficial damage. Upon the return of electricity and water, we will be able to return to work and continue serving the Boca Grande community. Please continue to pray for those affected by Hurricane Ian as recovery will be extensive.

On the September 30th update email from GICIA, the following was reported:

  • The Baptist Church has significant damage.
  • The Community Center looks pretty good.
  • The GICIA Office is fine. One minor roof leak.
  • Whidden's Marina and The Pink Pony are still standing but I have no idea of damage.
  • I could see roof damage at Scarpas and Gasparilla Inn.
  • South Beach Restaurant burned down.
  • Boca Bay Beach club took a beating.
  • The depot looked like it had some damage, few broke windows and maybe some roof tiles gone.
  • Hudson's, Special Effects, Post Office, Fugates, Catholic Church and Episcopal Church all looked ok.
  • The Beacon has a window or two broken.

The October 1st update email from GICIA reported:

  • AT&T and T-Mobile are setting up mobile sites to help with communication.
  • The water on Gasparilla Road is receding.
  • GIWA is working to restore water by Tuesday.
  • FPL stated once their assessment is completed they will be able to give an estimate of when power will be restore. The assessment should be done by tomorrow.

If you go to the island be sure to have your hurricane pass.
