Dear members and friends:

I know a lot of people make New Year’s resolutions, but for some reason, I have tended to think of Labor Day as the end of one season and the beginning of another. Maybe it was the annual rhythm of a new school year, but September has always been a marker for me to think about how I want to use my time in the “season” ahead. My involvement with Impact100 Martin has made that even more pronounced since our season begins in November with the Kickoff.

I hope this newsletter inspires you to think about how you want to get involved with Impact100 Martin in our new season. One of the things I love about the Impact100 model created by Wendy Steele is that each of us determines our level of involvement each year. No two years have looked the same for me, for sure!

While I hope you read all our newsletters, this one is so important – it gives you the year at a glance and introduces lots of ways you can be involved.

  • Help us plan our reach by renewing your membership right away and committing to an Evergreen membership. The more members we have, the more Impact Grants we can award. Let’s get to four this year!
  • Introduce us to a nonprofit who may not know Impact100 Martin. Our new Visioning Team, working with the Grants Committee, wants to build relationships with nonprofits who may not know how they could benefit from our grants. We want to expand our grants into all the five focus areas necessary to build healthy communities.
  • Refer us to a potential business sponsor. Is there a company or professional you do business with who has a heart for community building and philanthropy? Tell us about them and we will reach out to share the benefits of being a business sponsor.
  • Bring a friend to one of our events so they can see and hear firsthand how we are transforming Martin County. This is the most powerful path to membership.
  • Join a committee to help run the chapter and meet amazing women. Our committee description will guide you on what each committee does so you can choose your level of interest and time commitment.

By now I’m sure you’ve heard that Wendy Steele, founder of the Impact100 movement, will be our keynote speaker at the Kickoff. We are so grateful for her support and for her words of wisdom which continue to guide us. One of my favorite quotes from her recent book is, “Generosity is good for us. It is a healthier way to live. When we give back, we feel good, and we want to do more. As we give, the community gets better. Others see our work and want to join us. It becomes a beautiful cycle, a vortex of generosity.”

With gratitude for your generosity no matter the form it takes,

Maureen Cotter, President

Registration is open for our season Kickoff on November 9th, 5:00-7:00pm at The Elliott Museum!

Meet the woman who started the Impact100 movement more than 20 years ago. Wendy Steele will share her personal journey of building one of today’s most powerful grassroots organizations and inspire us to continue growth and community transformation.

If you haven’t read it yet, be sure to pick up a copy of Wendy’s debut book, Invitation to Impact: Lighting the Path to Community Transformation. Part business book, part memoir, Invitation to Impact provides insights for catalyzing meaningful change by giving women a seat at the table and a chance to join the movement—or spark one within themselves.

A new resource will be available for Martin County nonprofits considering an Impact100 grant application this year. Our Visioning Team was created to increase the quality and quantity of applications and support nonprofits before they submit a letter of intent (LOI). A pair of team members will meet with each organization to answer questions and offer unbiased feedback. They will not tell agencies what to do.

The team falls under the Grant Committee but will not share information that could impact the application’s success with the committee. Members of the Visioning Team cannot serve on the Grants Committee. Sessions will take place four to six weeks before the LOI submission deadline. Once the grant application process has begun, the Visioning Team’s work is done.

Help spread the word! Know an agency with an idea for a project or program that fits our mission?

  • Let them know about our Visioning Team
  • Invite them to the Grant Workshop taking place November 2nd
  • Suggest they reach out to The Community Foundation of Martin-St. Lucie, our partners in grantmaking, to discuss the process and guidelines
  • Direct them to the Impact100 Martin website Grants link for details: https://www.impact100martin.org/grants/
  • Email the Visioning Team: visioning@impact100martin.org

Thank you to our friends at the Indian River Impact100 Chapter for generously sharing insights about the success of their long-standing Visioning process!

In just six years, the members of Impact100 Martin have contributed an astounding $1.4 million in grants to local nonprofits. We are changing the face of our community!

Last year we ended the season with 366 members. Will you renew your membership and invite a friend to join? With your help, we will award four impact grants (or more!) in 2024.

Our annual appeal letter, membership application, and chapter update were mailed to you in late August. If you haven’t received them yet, click here to download:

Sue Whittington is a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley. Sue joined Impact100 Martin in 2020 and served on the Membership Engagement Committee before joining the board as Sponsorship Chair in 2022.

Sue believes in the power of positive female relationships and working together to address needs in her community, but the idea of feeling like a $100,000 philanthropist with her $1,000 donation was a game changer. The phenomenal women she has met through Impact100 are an amazing bonus.

Sue is active in many nonprofit organizations including Rotary, her church, and United Way; and serves on several local boards. She loves tennis and golf and is a travel agent in training (she loves to plan events and trips). She and fellow Impact100 member Brigite Babine qualified for the USTA Nationals Tennis Tournament in Arizona this year – a personal milestone. Her next goal is to qualify for the LPGA Amateurs National Golf Tournament in 2024. She is the past recipient of Soroptimist International of Stuart’s Woman of Distinction Volunteer award, Rotarian of the Year, and the AFP of the Treasure Coast Outstanding Volunteer Award, among other accolades. Her mantra is, “I can deal with any deal as long as I know the deal.”

Do you know someone who could benefit from Impact 100 Sponsorship?

It takes more resources than we collect with the $100 per member administrative fee to run our organization. Becoming an Impact100 Sponsor offers great benefits to a business or organization and helps us offset the costs of doing business. Do you have a professional or personal relationship with someone who would benefit from being a sponsor? Sponsor benefits vary based on the level of sponsorship. All sponsors receive an ad in the Grants Award Celebration program and are recognized in social media, e-newsletters, and on signage at events, so it could be considered part of a company’s marketing and advertising budget.

Please contact Sue Whittington, 772-403-3013, or Tiann Berhoff, 772-834-1556, if you would like to discuss this further. Click here to view all Sponsor Benefits and Sponsor Levels.

Ballentine Partners

At Ballentine Partners we have an evergreen commitment to making our communities a better place, and we were drawn to the Impact100 model as a way to be a part of something bigger.

Over the last six years, three of our employees have engaged with both Impact100 Martin and Impact the Palm Beaches at the Board and Advisory Board level to help bring positive change to our local communities.

Our partnership with Impact goes beyond monetary contributions. Our involvement creates a sense of fulfillment and purpose as we help foster the power of collective action. The Impact 100 model has made a transformative ripple effect not just in our personal lives but in our professional knowledge and expertise as well, and what we learn from being a part of this organization we share with our clients and the broader community.

We are committed to our involvement with Impact100 Martin and Impact the Palm Beaches and have plans to expand our firm’s reach to more chapters nationwide. We hope to inspire everyone to be a philanthropist through the gift of collective giving.
