A Message from the President 

 

Dear Impact 100 Greater Indianapolis Members and Friends,

 

You are cordially invited to join Giving Sum and Impact 100 as we celebrate our combined $2 million philanthropic impact on Indianapolis. Featured speaker John Mutz has a wealth of experience in government, for-profit, and nonprofit organizations in Indiana, and will speak about philanthropy in our community and the importance of organizations like Giving Sum and Impact 100 in our community's growth and sustainability. Mutz served as Lieutenant Governor of Indiana and president of Lilly Endowment, one of America's largest family foundations. His extensive philanthropic career includes leading Lumina Foundation for Education, Indiana Economic Development Corporation, the Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority, and the Indiana and Indianapolis Chambers of Commerce. He was a founding member of the City Committee, an unofficial group who championed such efforts as White River State Park and renovations of Hilbert Circle Theater and Indiana Roof.

 

Giving Sum is a not-for-profit organization of next generation leaders working together to improve Indianapolis and central Indiana through volunteering, education, FUN, and a $50,000 annual grant.

 

We will be collecting used books at this event to be donated to the Indy Reads Books bookstore on Mass Avenue. Indy Reads has been the recipient of grants from both Giving Sum and Impact 100 Indy.

Our Annual Dinner Is Just Around the Corner

 

On Tuesday, June 9, we will be hosting our tenth annual Impact 100 Awards Dinner. This year, we will present grants to five deserving local non-profit organizations that are changing our community. The overall winner will receive a high impact $100,000 grant. This very special event will not only recognize these amazing organizations, but also will highlight the contributions of the previous $100,000 recipients recognized since our inaugural event in 2006. We will also take this opportunity to recognize Impact 100's founders and ten-year members.

 

With the 2015 grants totaling $184,000, Impact 100 will have given more than $1.6 million to charitable organizations in the central Indiana area since its inception.

 

The event will be hosted at The Willows on Westfield and will include dinner and a cash bar. We will also have our popular raffle again this year! Raffle items include a gift basket from the Eiteljorg Museum and an Ippolita necklace valued at $500.

Our Impact 100 Members Do Amazing Things!

 

We wanted to give you an update on special recognitions that some of our Impact 100 members have received this spring:

 

Lisa Rioux

Lisa Rioux, an Impact 100 member and tutor for Indy Reads, was recently recognized with the Richard Murray "Spirit of Indy Reads" Award. Lisa worked with her Indy Reads student to help get the student's diabetes under control. Lisa's student says her teacher has saved her life because she did not know what to do with her diabetic diagnosis.

 

Lisa says, "I knew that Indy Reads was an Impact 100 grant recipient. I have also gone with my student to visit her doctor at Pecar clinic, which is another Impact 100 recipient. Impact 100 has truly made a difference helping these nonprofits."

Yvonne Perkins  

 

Impact 100 member Yvonne Perkins was honored by University Library at the IUPUI Spirit of Philanthropy luncheon. Yvonne is a member of the IUPUI University Library Community board and was honored for supporting the library's undergraduate diversity scholarship program, where young scholars receive a year-long paid internship in the library.

Kelly Hartman

 

Kelly Hartman is the CEO of Insights Consulting, which was honored by the Indianapolis Star as a top workplace in 2015. Insights Consulting is an agency that supports individuals of all ages who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injury, and autism spectrum disorders. Kelly is also board chair of Outside the Box, the 2011 winner of Impact 100's $100,000 grant.

The work of our members beyond their Impact 100 membership continues to impress!
2015 Impact 100 Event Calendar Announced 
 

The Impact 100 Membership Committee has put together a nice mix of events for Impact 100 members, guests, and potential members. Two of the events are purely social, and the other four provide opportunities to better understand the impact our grants have on the nonprofits who receive them while socializing. All events are from 5:30-7:30 pm (except Jameson Camp, with a 1:30-4:00 pm 

schedule), and will include light appetizers/snacks and drink. Members are encouraged to bring guests, including spouses and even children to Jameson Camp. We are always recruiting for new members, and these events give you an opportunity to introduce others to Impact 100 in a no-pressure situation. You will receive an email invitation to each event containing more information and a link to RSVP.      

The 2015 Impact 100 Event Calendar Dates and Locations
  • July 15: Summer Party at Bright Ideas in Broad Ripple: In its second year, this party invites the five nonprofits winning grants at our annual meeting June 9 to set up a table top display. This gives our members a chance to talk one-on-one with these organizations about how they will implement their Impact 100 grant.
  • August 29: Jameson Camp Follow the Impact. Jameson Camp won the 2012 $100,000 grant, and they are opening up their camp on a Saturday afternoon from 1:30-4pm. Members are invited to bring spouses, children, grandchildren, and friends to see the camp and experience an example of the programs Jameson Camp offers inner-city youth.
  • September 16: Party at the City Market. Another event in its second year and back by popular demand, we will take over the City Market for a few hours and enjoy wine tasting by Grey Market Wines and a spooky tour of the Catacombs hidden below the market.
  • October 7: Rock Steady Boxing Follow the Impact. Rock Steady Boxing was the recipient of the 2010 $100,000 grant, and their growth since receiving that grant has included going international! They are looking forward to giving us a demonstration of their program and sharing a celebration of their success.
  • November 4: Dove Recovery House Follow the Impact. Dove may have received only a residual grant in 2012, but the ripple effect of their being that year's Health and Wellness Committee finalist is a testament to the impact a group of women working together can achieve.
  • December 10: Holiday Party at Kitchens by Design. For the third year, Kristin Okeley hosts our annual holiday party. It's a wonderful way to end the year, with excellent food and wine in a lovely location with gracious hostesses.
