US Army Major Sylvia James to be Honored at the 2nd Annual NW GA We CARE Vet Fair

Major James will receive a Quilt of Valor at Noon on May 16, 2024, at the Forum River Center, Rome, Georgia, Main Stage.

Rome, Georgia, May 13, 2024 - The 2nd Annual NW GA We CARE Vet Fair is set to take place on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Forum River Center in Rome, Georgia. The event, dedicated to serving Veterans, military service members, and their families, will host over one hundred local, state, and federal agencies providing essential services for Veterans.

A highlight of this year's event will be the special recognition ceremony honoring US Army Major Sylvia Bonnette James, a distinguished veteran who proudly served in the US Army from 1993 until 2005. At noon, Major James will be presented with a Quilt of Valor commemorating her dedicated military service.

Major James, a symbol of commitment and service, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in May 1993 at Howard University. Her assignments took her to various locations, including Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg, NC); K-16 Army Airfield and Yongsan in Seoul, S. Korea; Fort Lee, VA; Schofield Barracks, HI; Fort Belvoir, VA; the Pentagon; and Fort Hood, TX. During her tenure, she achieved the rank of Major. She was awarded several prestigious medals, including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Armed Services Expedition Medal, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge.

Today, Major James continues her spirit of service as a Delivery Station Manager (DSM), DAT9 (Fairburn, GA), with Amazon. She remains dedicated to giving back to her fellow Veterans by actively participating in events such as the We CARE Vet Fair. Amazon will also extend its support by providing groceries to two hundred Veteran families in need from 12:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the event.

The We CARE Vet Fairs are the largest single event aimed at assisting all military personnel in accessing and obtaining the benefits they have rightfully earned through their service. In addition to benefit services, attendees will have access to free legal assistance, transportation options, complimentary haircuts, and more. The event is open to all military personnel and their families, with no admission or parking fees.

The 2nd Annual NW Georgia We CARE Vet Fair welcomes Veterans from all sixteen northwest Georgia counties, Chattanooga, and Eastern Alabama.
