ISW President's Message
Dear ISW Supporters
The India Day celebrations continued with several communities raising the Indian flag to commemorate the Indian Independence Day. Here the towns of Worcester, Shrewsbury and Grafton held flag hoisting ceremonies. In Grafton BVIS, ISW and IAGB members attended a flag hoisting event event where the Select Board Chair Peter Carlson proclaimed August 15th to be India Day. In Worcester, ISW and IAGB members were present as the Mayor of Worcester, Joseph M Petty, hoisted the Indian tricolor on August 8th to celebrate India Day. Earlier the mayor had read a proclamation at the ISW India Day celebrations declaring August 7th India Day.
Once again, we would like to thank our volunteers and sponsors without whose dedication and support India Day would not have been possible. With the India Center buzzing once again, we have activities and events ongoing as you can see from the list of events below. Please join us and make this truly your community center.
Puneet Kohli, President India Society of Worcester

Reflections on Independence Day
by Asha Singh, ISW Teacher
जन -जन में हो प्रीत बसी
हर एक मन सुख से भर जाये,
सुंदर सपने सबके सच हों
ये भोर सुहानी रंग लाये ।
इसी कामना के साथ
सप्रेम नमस्कार !

ISW YOUTH CORNER
Purpose of School…
A poem by Tharegha Manoharan
Let’s talk about tests,
Standardized tests.
Those tests teachers hand out,
That make students doubt,
Their entire life route.
Education is the purpose for school,
It’s supposed to give us the tools,
To go fight the wrong,
Out there, and strong.

YOUR PROFESSIONAL SELF
Career Exploration Series: Interview with Ms. Rhea Vyas
By Tanvi Gahlot, ISW Youth Reporter
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” every high schoolers nightmare, or not? This question may seem haunting at first, but it gives students an opportunity to think about what we are interested in. In the following interview. Ms. Rhea Vyas, an IYG alumni and Worcester elementary teacher talks about the field of education, it’s challenges, and it’s rewards.
Tanvi Gahlot: What advice would you give to high schoolers who are interested in having a future career in education, like you?
Rhea Vyas: One of the reasons I went into the field of education was because I was very passionate about making an impact and teaching kids. Although sometimes teaching young kids might seem like an easy job, it actually requires a lot of effort.
Read the rest of the interview with Rhea to learn what motivates her to teach elementary school students on the ISW Website.
