Katrina Returns From Mongolia! 





This month, Katrina Clemons (top photo), ISS-USA's Social Work Case Manager, returned from the  Department of State and Professional Fellows Program of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations .  The program also partnered with the China Global Philanthropy Institute in Beijing and the Zorig Foundation in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.  The program is a capacity-building project for professionals in the non-governmental sector.  The goal of the program is to administer a two-way exchange for emerging leaders in China, Mongolia and the United States in the fields of environment, philanthropy, legal aid, and community building among marginalized populations. 
 
Ms. Clemons was one of nine fellows selected to take part in the program. She was stationed in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia with her host agency, the Christina Noble Foundation. This foundation  is dedicated to serving vulnerable children in Mongolia who are in need of medical care, nutritional rehabilitation, educational opportunities, and vocational training. They also supply traditional Mongolian housing to families who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. During her time in Mongolia, Ms. Clemons built housing for families in need and conducted trainings for the staff at the Christina Noble Foundation on best practices in international social work. 

Family Finding and Engagement Training


Elaine Weisman,  ISS-USA's Program and Training Manager (above left, standing), and staff members from Saint Francis Community Services, spent a week in Kansas this month training over seventy professionals on international family finding and engagement. Through this training, ISS-USA and Saint Francis have identified a need for additional judicial and legal training to support their work. They plan to implement these trainings in the near future.
