From the Executive Council

As Salamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

Welcome to the first ISGVF newsletter of 2024. The ISGVF Executive Council will continue to serve to the best of our ability to operate the masjid and to keep our community informed throughout the year using various methods such as email, and through ISGVF's online social media channels; please visit our website to subscribe and stay informed of events. Due to the effort involved by limited resources, this newsletter will be distributed to the community at least quarterly this year, with what we hope is useful and valuable content to the reader about happenings at ISGVF.

Ramadan is drawing near and our excitement is growing, but our hearts are hurting for those Muslims suffering around the world as we continue to witness unimaginable events unfolding almost as they happen. But it is a time for reflection, Ibadah, and most of all, Du'a, to strengthen our optimism with Allah Subhana Wa Ta'ala.

Ramadan is also a time to step up our material generosity. To keep our masjid running and to invest in shares of current and future returns (amount only known to Allah SWT) from events, programs, and education offered, ISGVF invites you, your family and friends to the Annual Fundraising Iftar on March 16th, 2024. Please read on for details!

Alhamdulillah we also have many committees at ISGVF with committed members ready to plan and conduct programs and campaigns this year, giving our community many ways to benefit. Committees are always welcome to those who want to volunteer; please contact the committee chairperson or to get involved or just to learn more.

Please include the Executive Council, all our willing volunteers, and the Board of Trustees in your Dua's during these holiest of days for successfully serving you, our community!

With respect,

ISGVF Executive Council

From the Imam

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah,

All praises are due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.

Alhamdulillah to start the new year, we had a successful 4 week intensive on the Fiqh of Contemporary Medical Issues. It was attended well - brothers and sisters from different age ranges participated. There was great discussion on many relevant contemporary medical issues. We ask Allah that he accepts! Our next intensive currently under way is a 3-week Ramadan workshop on the History and Fiqh of Ramadan, fasting, and qiyam. See the flier for details, everyone is encouraged to join.

A reminder that we are now in the month of Sha’ban, the month before Ramadan. It’s important that we begin preparing ourselves for the month of Ramadan, if we haven’t done so yet! The month of Sha’ban was the month the Prophet ﷺ used to fast the most aside from the month of Ramadan. When asked about his fasting in this month, he responded by saying, “That is a month — between Rajab and Ramadan — that people overlook . It is a month, wherein deeds go up to the Lord of the Worlds, and I like for my deeds to go up while I am fasting.” (an-Nasa'i) Perhaps, from the wisdoms in this is for us to prepare our bodies for the month long fasting Ramadan. So let's start looking at our schedules and penciling in days where we can fast. Let’s start praying 2 rak’aat extra after ‘Isha prayers to prepare ourselves for the night prayer of Ramadan. Let’s start or increase our recitation of the Qur’an. Lastly, let’s not forget to remind and encourage our family members and friends as well. May Allah accept from us and may He grant us the ability to reach Ramadan in a good state of Imaan and health. Ameen!
