MALHEUR COUNTY PROVIDER UPDATE: Cigna Direct Contracting

For participating providers in Malheur County, Oregon:
Although the relationship between Cigna and IPN ends June 30, 2022, the effective date of direct contracts with Cigna may be effective earlier than July 1, 2022. IPN reimbursement and services would be applicable until the new effective date is implemented with Cigna, or July 1, 2022, whichever comes first.

For participating providers with locations in both Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon:
Since the relationship between Cigna and IPN ends June 30, 2022, the effective date of direct contracts between Idaho providers and Cigna will not be until July 1, 2022. However, the effective date of direct contracts with Malheur County providers may be earlier. This means providers serving both service areas may have two contracts in effect for a short period of time. The applicable contract and reimbursement will depend where services are rendered.

Policy & Reimbursement Updates
Cigna routinely reviews coverage, reimbursement, and administrative policies for potential updates. In that review, Cigna takes into consideration one or more of the following: Evidence-based medicine (EBM), professional society recommendations, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) guidance, industry standards, and our other existing policies. Below are policies that will be changing:

J Code and Dose Descriptor - Neulasta and Neulasta Onpro: For dates of service on or after January 1, 2022, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will require Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code J2506 to be used for Neulasta® and Neulasta Onpro®. The HCPCS code J2505 will no longer be accepted.

The following applies to Cigna customers who have authorizations on file for J2505 to be covered under their medical benefit. Claims that will be paid under the pharmacy benefit are not affected by this change.

  • Approvals for J2505 that extend into 2022 will not be impacted by this change.
  • Cigna will honor all authorizations under J2505 through the duration of the approved time frame with no action needed by the provider or Accredo®, a Cigna specialty pharmacy.
  • Cigna will reimburse claims for existing authorizations under J2505 through the duration of the approved time frame with no action needed by the provider or Accredo.
